  • Might i ask what brand of Bass that is you're playing in this video? Kinda reminds me of one of ibanez's higher end basses? They have a semi hollow body fretless that looks like yours.

  • I play a Breedlove acoustic electric fetless four string bass. Played with the right finger technique it sounds EXACTLY like a bull upright double bass. I use flatwound strings. And I highly recommend to be sure you have flatwounds for a fretless..I LOVE the sounds you can get only on fretless basses. The possibilities are endless when it comes to certain pieces that can only be played on microtonal instruments or fretless…

  • I'm a guitarist and i would like to learn 5 string bass and is there a 5 string fretless bass that has frets on it but you cant feel it?

  • I use flats on my J-bass. Partly because rounds were really rough on my plucking fingers but I can really crank up the bass on my amp and get a really good sound with flats.

  • eh the whole thing with rounds vs flats on fretless bass is kinda a non-issue. rounds might wear down the board faster, but it's probably a difference of getting your fingerboard re-sanded every 15 years as opposed to every 20 years.

  • A fretless bass must be calibrated to play in tune, just like fretted. The octave harmonic and the fingered octave note still need to be the same pitch.

  • on my frettet bass I have to press down at the correct position or it buzzes, so its the same ig

  • Greetings sir, thank you for your video. I’ve been playing on an Ibanez sr400. Never played a fretless before but considering it. I think the Ibanez SR370EF is about the same bass I have only without frets. Do you know if this is a good bass? Also this bass has fret lines which I think will help me.

    Best wishes

  • As my journey of shredding evolves and unfolds, I feel that fretless bass is my only option and I cannot depart this world until I master it. Now where do I get one?

  • Im thinking about getting a fretless but ive only been playing for a little more than half a year, do you think the learning curve on a fretless would be to much for newer a player like me?

  • I unfretted cheap ahh chinese Ibanez-style bass. This is still kinda poor instrument, but I just love continuous slides and other tricks that this thing can do

  • It's your ears that should tell you what is in tune, not your eyes. Buy a fretless because you like the attack and you like the tone, and you're willing to put in the time to learn 1.) what 'in tune' really sounds like. 2.) how to control your body to make sure you are close to getting your finger in the right place, and 3.) know that playing any instrument that is capable of varied pitch is a commitment to effective practice.

  • It's been more than a decade since I played bass. It would probably be a bad idea to try and re learn on a fretless right?

  • As a violinist that started learning bass. The whole debate about Fretless or with frets is kinda wild to me. And I get it to a degree, The position your hand is in feels more difficult to be accurate, but also…

  • I would advise fretless without lines. Specifically for intonation reasons. (If you use the lines on a fretless bass you wont be as close to perfect intonation as you could be)

  • I play pretty much exclusively fretless basses – all with roundwounds. I'd your luthier knows what their doing, the fingers will last for ages.

  • Dude this video sucks, and it's because of your "don't buy before watching this video", just say your piece without trying to take advantage of human anxiety. Blocked.
