is there any way to play with additive synthesis in logic pro?
i think any sound being "inharmonic" is a relative term, because all sounds are technically harmonic, just at different time scales(?)
Best video I've seen breaking down overtones. You're a kind soul for making it so digestibleâ€ïž
my mind is blown
Amazing video. Luckily I remembered it when making my latest video, it was really interesting the first time, and weirdly helpful with my new video âCan music play Minecraft?â ????.
i already knew this.. but mind is sufficiently and perpetually blown
????
by the way, even if you delete the fundamental of a note, we can still hear the original pitch of the note.
????
This is reminiscent of something I once read about Albert Einstein. It seems that Albert was an accomplished violinist. So much so that he was said to be able to hear all of the harmonic series on each string, focusing on the distance to each string equally tempered section of the string. In this way one can explore a piece of music in a harmonically satisfying manner. Turns out, old Al was a quite accomplished musician, making the violin a lifelong avocation
As a producer learning music theory is gonna be helpful. Also yeah I kinda knew about the EQ ???? but not on that perspective so it still helps yeah.
Frequency Spectrum displays
Amplitude of Overtones (Harmonics)
Editing by raising or lowering;Boost/Cut the Amplitude of certain Overtones (Harmonics)
Additive Synthesis is the cheat code to understanding the Frequency Spectrum, aslo playing Chords like on Piano (Intervals)
8:55 Vocal Groups (Tuning)
7:34 Partials (Interval Ratios)
7:15 Filter Envelope
how harmonics change overtime
DAMMMMMMMITTTTTT!!!!
mind blown. how do we take this to the next level?
????
Mind blown, subscribed and sharing with your followers the link to Leonard Bernsteinâs own version of your explanation of the harmonic series from his master classes at Harvard in 1973 (The Unanswered Question, first class out if six). So mind blown TWICE đ Excellent work Sir! https://youtu.be/8fHi36dvTdE?si=ii7jBlTh6GT3Y04d
Andrew! Yes, mind blown. Thank you.
It's just unisons basically
7:45 Love your explanation of why old guitar strings sound worse. Mind. Blown!
Liked and subscribed – based on this video.
The jumpscare at the end
Wow, mind officially blown now! I used to wonder how a single speaker could reproduce (more or less) all the instruments of a symphony orchestra sounding simultaneously. It has to do with mixtures of mixtures of harmonics, i.e., combinations of sine waves. Here's another mind blower; quantum physicists theorize that all matter in the material universe can be explained as wave motion. i.e., particles that propagate as waves but are detected as particles. Do you see the connection? If so please explain it to my poor blown mind. It's drowning in an ocean of waves.
Really cool stuff.
Really cool!
For just intonation how do you tune the notes outside the harmonic series?
I've just started to learn music theory from math perspective, and at least now I've got why tritone is a devil's interval. It's just an approximation for SEVERAL divine intervals. Just like someone said, oh let's play the whole bunch of those divine harmonic intervals using a single dissonant note – and let's call it the devil's interval. No one will even notice
The best ????????
have you heard the 2.718 theory on harmonics? there's a rabbit hole. E constant. musicians who think they're useless at math? no – if you're good at music you're good at math – you may just have an issue with communication of those ideas…. cause music IS math.
lol having been a chorister, a singer, a guitarist and finally a pianist – the piano always sounded worse than the others. true vs equal … there's no greater feeling when hearing voices hit a chord in true temperament vs equal. the vibrations just sound so amazing.
I know a music theory that uses these harmonics!
I love additive synthesisâ€
