  • Great demo, Darren. (Pardon me if this is arrogant.) Much of what you’ve done here with this Fender reminds me of the bass parts I laid down on this solo record of mine, played with a custom Carvin (now Kiesel) fretless I purchased from a good friend.

Looking at your MIDI controllers, I’m reminded of a misconception I had while watching the documentary about the recording of “We Are the World”. I can recall looking at the mixing consoles (or ‘desks’ if you like) and wondering if there was a synthesizer keyboard (for what I knew when I was five in ‘85) down where the faders are.

  • I notice that the Mexican made versions do not have the strings going through the body. Did you/anyone notice any difference in sound sustain?

  • Thanks for your video ! I have a question tho : I’m considering purchasing this bass and as a Jaco fan I’d like to remove the pickguard. However I know some jazz bass has a kinda cavity, like a route from the neck pickup to the control plate so you can’t really take of the plate and leave it like this. Is it the case for this one ?

  • May be a stupid question, but do you think it can compete with the american pro ii fretless? I want to invest in a good fretless bass but wouldn’t double the price for some fancy minor upgrades.

  • Daren, I like your review very much, it is honest and musical. I tend to play along those lines myself and I can see how you make this bass sing. You are a great musician!

  • @Darren Lock, I have one of these myself. I shimmed the neck and tweaked the truss rod so it plays like buttah.
