Bass Guitar Instrument Cable Comparison (Monster Bass 2014, Mogami Gold, Live Wire Soundhose)

If you enjoyed this, please like and subscribe!

I was sent one of the new for 2014 Monster Bass cables and decided I would finally get around to making a video comparison for it.

In my area, all three cables have a lifetime warranty if the cable ever malfunctions. So, if you’re looking to buy a new instrument cable maybe this will help you out! What’s your opinion of the three different cables? Let me know in the comments.

For best possible results, watch in HD and listen with headphones.

  • Mogami had the most even sound nice crisp highs and you can hear the character in the lows the monsters are amazing to but they cut off some of the highs and the lows are very wide but not as present as the mogami cable to me mogami wins this but if your into that dubby sound with flat wounds the monster cable would be more ideal

  • I'm very late to the party, but I see one huge problem with this test: the input signal is not identical. Each cable was recorded in a separate take: ergo, you cannot determine if a tonal difference is due to minute variations in playing or actually due to the cable. Two routes for a more fair comparison: (a) pass the bass signal through a buffer (to mitigate resistance/capacitance issues caused by parallel cabling), then out through all three cables simultaneously, or (b) record a take, then reamp the clip through each of the three cables.

Method (b) would also provide a useful control: you can then compare the initially recorded signal with the signal reamped through each cable.

  • Fender bass cable fg186L and 186BSL. They abandonned me on stage while playing. They are not reliable for me. Last about a year. My thick Monster bass cables never died.

  • Where are the thick Monster bass cables? They are great…. and last also

  • nice video. a piece of suggestions, i need to click on the progress bar to compare closely. A bit of video editing could be more amazing. Like AngelDust, just one play along, while switching every settings on the go:)

  • LOL, there is a HUGE difference.
What's wrong with you guys? CLOSE YOUR EYES before seeing which is which.

    Fingering:
    1. Warm full, not tight sound, but nice Round bass Sound great for Jazz, Reggae

    2. Not much low, compared to #1, but Tight cut through the mix sound, would add slight bass eq. on this one.

    3. Terrible sloppy, not so tight

    Slapping:
    1. Warm full, not tight sound, but nice Round bass Sound,
would add treb eq. on this one to get the brightness I need.
    2. Not much low, compared to #1, but Tight cut through the mix sound,
would add slight bass eq. on this one. great for slapping

    3. Terrible sloppy, not so tight, but passable in Brightness for Slapping

  • The placebo is the main argument against quality cables. Remove the brand labels and post which was which at the end of the video

  • i would say that the live wire has a good middletone for that price but not so defined, the mogami is very clear and the monster very punchy… but every one has his own ears… 🙂

  • At first I wasn't sure but I could definately hear that the mogami sounded more clear & picked up each frequency clearer. I think the live wire had more low end but u can always add that. Thanks for comparisons! -Chris
