  • Given the fact that Bill Rupert demos this with a GUITAR, and notates within the comments that this and most of the EH pedals of this type were designed to work in the note range of a GUITAR and NOT BASS, well, you get my drift.

  • The secret to using a synth bass pedal is not to play bass like a bassist. you need to think about what notes you would select and how you would move between notes if you were playing a keyboard. also you have to adjust your technique to fit the pedal.

  • Just get a Boss SY-1 and be done with it. All of the EHX and Source Audio synth pedals are unusable on stage in a live setting. All of the Boss and Digitech synth pedals work well during a live performance.

  • You forgot something, after the Shure Beta 52, you should list the potato that recorded the video 🙂

  • This pedal needs a new video. This demonstrator is a snappy dresser. A wonderful conversationalist.
I'm sure he's great with kids and a total bombshell with ladies.
But as far as demoing this pedal, he's giving it no justice whatsoever.
Not saying anything bad ; What I am saying is, you need a real sticky finger funky MFr to demo the tar outta this pedal!
Maybe someone who knows what the effects can actually setoff.
    Iron Butterfly, Yes ,
    Deep Purple , Rush,
John Crosby , DAZZ Band ,
    Cameo , Parliament Funkadelic , Gap Band….
The material to choose from, in order to demo this pedal correctly , is vast and extensive .
Why does he sound unprepared ?

Like I said, cool guy ,
    New video please .

  • Late to the party.
    Great video, Nick.

How is the tracking compared to a Boss SYB-5? Different interpretations for passive and active basses?

  • When I play bass with the Synth9, for some reason it interprets every note lower than a D (2nd string on a bass) an octave higher. It also picks up EVERY SINGLE MINUSCULE NOISE the instrument makes (e.g. lightly running your hand over the strings, grabbing it, etc) and it comes out the amp as synthesized "bass noise".
Does anyone else run into these problems?
I'm using a Harley Benton B-650 Progressive 6-string bass (which renders the lower extended range kinda pointless) and a Laney 60W bass amp.

  • Been trying one in a shop lately. Massive / analog feeling sound, really fat with tons of harmonics. Better than Boss SYB by far –
not the same price though. BUT the sound has a kind of natural echo / ambiance to it, and there is absolutely no way to get a clean, "dry" – with no room / ambiance – synth sound. Even the guy at the shop admitted it. So in short : great if you're into psychedelic / floydish stuff, useless if you look for funky / tight sounds – and I guess it must be really messy when played live with a full band. However, still a good choice for studio work and innovative textures…

  • a bit too much click for me. Some really neat effects though. Not sure its worth the pricetag for a synth pedal. This one doesnt even end up mimicing the original too well, and I guess that makes sense, since the original synths were mimicing other instruments… poorly. Thanks for the demo.

  • Did y'all give Will some time off? 🙂 Good video, Nick. I kinda like this pedal. It's definitely different. Would fit in nice with the Synthwave 80s sounding stuff out there.

  • hello, nice video again, love it. Do you have a five string? because I am curious what can this affect pedals do in low B note.
