  • I have three TC-Helicon vocal processors already. They sound good but the problem is they can't handle my harmonica. It would temporarily lose it's "tone" for more or less a minute, then comes back which is frustrating. Hope boss VE-500 can handle harmonica signal so it's worth changing gear.

  • I must say I had the VoiceLive Touch mk1 and then moved to VE500 to having a little more freedom for playing guitar while singing.

To me and all of my bandmates the VE500 sounded instantly better than the VoiceLive on the first harmony test (with the Enhancer enabled), although to be fair, I'd say the harmonies were just as good, and the Enhancer was what actually made it sound better.

I have yet to find something better in terms of features, flexibility (VE500 interface is prehistoric, but you can customize your presets much more, and the use of external pedal is way better; VoiceLive's was so limited) and quality (here it's a tie).

Too bad Line6 won't release a Helix Vocals. I suffer when editing presets on VE500, especially the assign section (Helix's snapshots are way better), and suffered with the VoiceLive.

  • Is it able to use guitar output as a second output for a vocal in order to make a stereo effects on tc helicon?
    Thanks

  • The secret is the harmonizer sounds so much better with extreme compression and enhance engaged. Panning and EQ is super important! Use a condenser and use less enhance otherwise with a dynamic mic, it's going to sound much more artificial.

  • i have a buddy who uses that other mic setting too haha. i can't tell much of a difference

  • I have watched many videos out here in the last week, but I would say I am more unsure now than before. The problem is that I play keyboard and it seems to me that I only have two choices "tc helicon voicelive 3 extreme" and "boss ve-500" which has midi in. But both of these are difficult to configure, the first one is also very expensive. Is there a better, simpler and equivalent alternative for us vocalists who play keyboards? I play and sing a lot of classic country music. Your video is very informative and made me think a lot. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? One last question is Can you use the tc helicon voicelive 3 extreme and boss ve-500 with the default values or do you have to change the sound a lot?

  • I think this video MIGHT BE hot garbage, I think TC Helicon MIGHT be garbage as well, I think you MIGHT ought to stay in school.

  • Hello, please tell me if the VE 500 has harmony control via (aux in), is it possible to control harmony directly from the backing track?

  • The harmonies are super accurate on the ve 500 if you raise the input level of the instrument that the harmonies are reading to tune to. Also just a factory reset. The ve 500 is solid for harmonic accuracy for sure

  • I got a Helicon Harmony gxt. I use it in a strange way: 1) Mic in 2) Inst In 1/4 for a BeatBuddy drum machine. Got one reverb knob for both. Input knob for the mic, Guitar knob for my drum machine. I plug the Left out xlr on my Harmony GXT into 1) input of a QSC powered speaker >> I plug my xlr guitar preamp into 2nd) input of my QSC speaker and that’s it, easy pizzy. Harmony GXT is a two in one devise for me (mic and drum machine)

Just bought the VE500 which is nice and loud which I like HOWEVER plugging my drum machine into the instrument In the drums doesn’t work/ nothing no sound coming out my QSC speaker. Why, I have no idea???? This sucks for me!!

Question: is the Helicon Voiceplay loud because this is what I need cuz my Harmony GXT is not loud hardly at all!!! I figure the Voiceplay will work with my drum machine >>Same company and all…???

  • Can you store a preset with multiple effects together with the VE 500. Like delay with chorus?

  • Hello, I bought boss ve-50"
I have noticed that when you use pitch correction or when you use ehnace the treble (and it is especially noticeable on the ''s''), the treble sound is not stable and is noticeable as some noise. Is it normal for this to happen when using these effects? thank you

  • Excuse me for commenting from Japan.
I am currently using voice live 2 and am considering purchasing the VE-500. I would like to ask about the VE-500. Is it possible to correct the pitch of a singing voice naturally without making it sound croaky with the pitch correct effect?
Also, when using pitch correct and monitoring my own voice with headphones, will the corrected voice sound a little delayed from the original voice, causing a double sound or something strange?
Also, I heard that there are pitch correct keys that you set yourself and ones that you set by playing the guitar, but is there a function that automatically matches the key using a YouTube sound source as a trigger? And one more thing, which one has better harmony sound quality, voice live 2 or this?
    Sorry for the long message.
If you don't mind, I would be very grateful.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Brent, I’m just picking up one of the Boss VE500’s. In this video you mention linking yours via midi to your looper to keep things (maybe just delay?) in sync? I might be curious how you going about hooking this up. I run a boomerang III phrase sampler for looping and was curious if I ever did want to try syncing it to the VE500 and how that would look. I know the rang also have some midi connections on it that I haven’t used. I will try it on my own but thought I’d inquire since it sounds like you might have some knowledge of this type of thing. Thanks for the video.

  • I had both, but I sold them because I don't think they sound natural. Compressor and eq setting is not detailed enough in TC. The Boss has a lot of options, but I still didn't like its sound.

I did better with a good compressor and minimal effects (delay, reverb). The less is more…

  • Hi Brett, great video. Novice to all this technology hence why im researching it. So im looking to invest in my own self sufficient set up as basic and portable as can be. Which one of these would you recommend for someone who is new to the equipment but wanting to gig professionally?. Also any recommendations on a speaker to accompany a vocal box? TIA

  • Hi, what is your recommendations of multi effect pedal to engage with looper? Now i use zoom g3xn for my rc600, i love it so much but i doesn't have midi port to sync the tempo ????

    Reply
  • I use the TC and never had a problem, with the looper. if you make it mono it doubles the time onboard memory etc…

  • In the video it looks like the guitar jack plug is not plugged in correctly.
Therefore, there is no real signal or pitch coming from the guitar for the harmonizer.

  • Easy to handle, If you can only control your vocals with Wooran Paddal and want to make a variety of sounds, what would you recommend? Thank you at all times.

  • Hey dude !!!
I just watched a ton of your videos and I don't know what vocal pedal to get.
How do you feel about the Boss now ?
Did they update it to fix the Harmony problem ?
I play guitar and bass, but bass in my 80's band and just want to add effects to my vocals.
I like the Berry White…etc effects, and a bunch of the effects on the TC Helicon, but I also have a lot of Roland and Boss gear and that stuff is so solid.
Let me know what you think for a live 80's band.
Super psyched I saw your videos !!!!
    Your super talented !!!
If yer in Pennsylvania and need a drummer, I have 2 Roland kits TD 27 and TD-17 electronic drums.
    Have a great day !!!!
    ????????

  • Can the VE-500 be programmed to do harmonies 2 octaves up? – and can it also be programmed to do EVERY interval in between? (that would be about 24 different options just with harmonies above the root..) -cuz the TC Helicon CAN do this, and I'm still looking for anything else (for vocals) that can..

  • I been trying to use the boss ve 500 i dont know anything about mixing might return it fro the helicon live play, the auto tune just doesn’t sound like what i need i can’t seem to get it right

  • but the interesting thing is to compare the ve500 with the Tc vl3. I suppose then that vl3 is superior to both, right?

  • One big drawback for the voice live play is that the sensor it uses to detect the tones to put harmony its to (called "NP"), usually will not work past 2 hours of "sensing" without being unplugged/replugged in to reset it. Sometimes it won't even last an hour without requiring a reset. I've owned 3 and they all have that problem. I have 3-4 hr gigs, so its a real pain. If you rarely need the harmonies, its no big deal but if you do the "NP" sensor is paramount.

  • The TCHPA has a Tone Style Parameter which is your EQ, Compression and gate. There are various presets depending on your voice.

  • i’m just trying to find a monitoring pitch correction pedal or plug in i can use live (set the key, sing live and have it set at like 50-60% correction speed) similar to Goldfinger when they perform “superman” recently live, he uses SOME pitch correct effect live and i would love it, it’s not too strong

  • For the VE500, can you have a separate output for the guitar? Or like run it thru other fx pedals, and separate output for the mic going to the mixer?

    Thanks brother!

  • Thank you Brent, that's quite valuable, especially for us new guys lol means a lot !!!! Out of the box !!! The boss looks a lot like my GT-1B that I use right now for guitar and bass.

Unrelated question, sort of but here goes… right now I have 3 loopers in my possession, Boss RC 500, RC 600, RC 5.

My plan was to try them all out, now my plan is to return the RC 5 and RC 500, Keeping the 6 loop RC 600.

Is there any reason to keep one of the other two ? I like the simplicity of the 2 loop RC 500, I like the power and size (and price) of the RC 5, but to be practical is it logical to just go with the 600, want for nothing, and grow into it ? I am new to looping but tend to use most of my gear a lot. If I need it to perform the cost factor isn't huge…

Sorry for the abstract question, I guess I'm still at the point where I don't even know what I don't know if that makes sense.

    Thanks !!!!! ????
