Records ‘n Riffs Ep.2 – Megadeth’s Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good
Thanks very much for tuning in, this is a new series where I research a classic album, play some of my favourite riffs from it and discuss useless trivia which is hopefully entertaining 🙂
I mentioned it in the video but anyone with a Quad or Nano Cortex, you can have a capture of today’s tone and about 100 others I’ve done over the last few years. Search for Lambchopper678 in the Neural DSP cloud.
I keep up to date with all your comments and suggestions so all I ask is be honest and I’ll work on being better.
Thanks Jason @Headfirst Amps for letting me borrow his own Evil Joe amp for the last few weeks, it’s been really cool to use and the tones are really good. Check out https://headfirstamps.com for more info and pricing.

Open up the tone studio with your katana connected and go to the top right corner and click the down arrow. Locate your file and it’ll bring it into your library where you can drag them across to the katana 🙂

Riffing is your business and business is good. Thanks again for another great video
Hey chopper!
I have a tone-finding special request that I think you might have some fun with. Whiplash's "Power and Pain" guitar tone. It's this crazy, scratchy tone with almost a double tracked or reverb sound, and it totally captures early thrash guitar perfectly. Thanks in advance!
(P.S. if you could do it with your DSL100H, MXR 10 band EQ, and a tube screamer, that would be greatly appreciated.)
You never fail to amaze me man, such a great video for this great classic album, i love the first Megadeth records and still think they're underrated…Will you ever do a video with Line 6 products? I'm somehow very excited about the upcoming Helix Stadium, but since I'm quite an amateur with mediocre budget, tiny space, family, kids and neighbors I'm in this infinite loop of videos, searching for the all-in-one holy grail equipment to cover me for the next 10 years. I'm playing with a budget transistor amp since years and it effects my playing and takes the fun out of playing metal. You're by far the only guy I'd fanatically trust in terms of gear and tone. Shall I save up for a helix Stadium / neural dsp with an active cab, buy a katana or go all the way old school with a tube amp like the marshall dsl? The stuff I play/want to play is exactly what you cover on this channel. Cheers, a big fan from Germany
I want to get a good Marshall head and cab for metal and rock, should I go for a DSL or a classic JCM800
Dude has the best ears
Tares tones apart and riffs
Geez… dude
You shoulda been in a kick ass band everyone knows ya know
Last Rites/Loved to Deth is a bitch to time!
Great video and playing. Really love all your videos, but there really is something unique and special about this album. It's so raw and while the DNA of Megadeth starts here, it is unique among their entire catalogue. As you say, speed, agression and feel. Great job man!
There are two keys to understanding the anger fueled insanity that is Killing Is My Business.
1. they practiced these songs at like 80% speed. Then in the end sped it up because a fan asked Dave if his NEW BAND will be faster than Metallica.
2. Any additional increase in BPM due to substance abuse before going in and recording the tracks. One of them said the producer supplied them.
Anyway KIMB is the best thrash metal debut by far. Its a totally unique record. And it always will be!
Best channel for old school Metal Heads like me !! Thanks for the Records'n Riffs !!
hey Lamb! ive been watching you for probably 7-8 years by now and im a huge fan of your work! I just got the neural dsp plugin and playing around with the presets youve made, they sound insane! Was thinking though, have you ever had a crack at RTL with neural dsp? do you reckon it can be done with the boogie plugins? or should i get amplitube 5 for the JCM800 type amp it has? Cheers!
That opening “WHOA” is awesome and can’t imagine how much it must it must have hurt his throat! Been thinking that since the 80s.
I’m not sure if you’ll see this, I saw you did years of decay already. But could you give a crack at taking over by overkills guitar sound?
I love this series!!!! Thank you so much Lamb Chopper!!!!
When you said Thrash Goblin I lost it ????????????????
The budget was 8K but came out to 12? Did I catch that right ?
Im so stoked on this series! Let's gooooo
Great video, my friend!!!
Cheers from Portugal ????????????????
In a documentary Dave ellefson says that someone sent them a letter before they made killing is my business and the letter said “hey Dave I hope your new stuff is faster than Metallica” so they sped up the riffs :B
You just made me re-do my homework again! I appreciated EQs more because of you! Thank you 🙂
need a "learn to play" video on the title track super badly
I totally agree with Lamb on the point of these riffs are the hardest followed by Rust in peace… The KIMB riff is so fun to play once you get the flow of it. So many notes n lil things going on here on their first album that if it was anymore saturated in gain they may not be as audible. Not sure if that was a happy accident or the gear at the time or recorded and mixed as such… Either way it kicks ass ????????
Chosen ones ❤
celebutante sounds like looking down the cross.
Awesome video as always but it would be nice if every single channel didn’t sell out to the paid adds bullshit
Lamb chopper for president ????????
Definitely one of the best so far…….
forever will be one of my favorite albums. Insane debut, super technical, unique riffs, anger and aggression. People dont give it enough credit. Skull beneath the skin is the most badass song!
The lyrics of these boots are changed to the original lyrics on the Final Kill, not Daves altered ones
bird was headbanging at the start 🙂
the song KMB, man ive tried for years to get the timing down and have never been able to. That one, and good mourning black friday. They're such complex songs to both play and remember how to play. its insane he was able to write songs like that at such a young age.
Thanks for the review Chop ????
Can you Do killing is my bussiness but in boss katana?
Perfect album, perfect riff, amazing songs
Thank you for giving this album attention. The songs all have this feeling of always moving forward, jazz mixed with punk and metal. It would be exhausting playing all
these songs live, couldn’t imagine doing it every night.
I saw them on the Wake Up Dead tour and they played a lot of this album.
This is a great format. Looking forward to more! Cheers ????
Absolutely love the series and nailed the album that made me fall in love Dave and his playing. His riffs have been driving me for years. Great point though, you never hear about how Dave built up his chops. You hear about how a family member's boyfriend showed him a couple things and how he learned to play like every single AC/DC song growing up. Such an innovator though. He takes everything that he learns from all these amazing players he pairs himself with and just makes it his own. Puts his own spin on things. People don't like Dave because he tends to put his foot in his mouth, but you can't question what he can do with a guitar in his hands.
Definitely looking forward to more of these videos. Really liked the No Life 'Till Leather one and as a huge Megadeth fan, liked this one even more. Great stuff
Brilliant album, it doesn't get enough recognition.
Thrashy – sleaze, gritty and aggressive.
It’s heresy, but I saw megadeth a few months ago and Dave’s live tone was far superior to the 80s tones. 80s tones are nasally and scratchy.
Put a Man in Guitar TONE control ????????????
Nice playing and fantastic episode, this series is gold and thank you for the hard work you put in to it.
Nice man!!!!!!!!!!!
The album kills, good job.
Nice guitar playing.
LambChopper and 80's thrash? Dream combination. ????????
Rattlehead is the best representation of what thrash metal really is, raw, brutal and honest.
Cheers for another awesome video.
Would love to see one of the Aussie OG thrashers, like Hobb's angel of death get unpacked.
Great video, haven't listened to that album in a long time, brought back a lot of memories.
Hitting the Like based of the title…. This will be another Lamb classic video!!
i really like the history you give…that's cool bruh…keep killing it man
