  • WOWW!! He just took a giant dump on my favorite bass!!!???? I turned the bass knob all the way down, and the treble and mid knobs all the way up. Then I soload the neck and bridge pickups and… Absolutely no hum at all! Maybe you had "Slacky the Bum"( There's one in every company) work on yours. Mine absolutely rocks and it's sooo easy to play even with the Neuropathy I developed in my hands where I had to learn to play all over again after 40 years!! And the tone is WWAAYY different from any other bass I've heard; Deep and focused with a very useful mid knob. This is not a tubby sounding based by any means. It came to play with a sharp suit and suede Chrome tipped Beatle boots, Jack!!????

  • Thnx Lobster….you are really the Best. I'm a Beginner and wanted to get a decent bass right away. Your performance completely convinced me. The Starfire is so beautiful and I can't wait to start learning. Thank you for your great videos. Greetings from Germany

  • Not to say that I can’t form my own opinion. But based on what I can see is genuinely love for the craft as well as the tools, I opted to get a Sire U5 (played through my cheap behringer sand amp rip off —sorry!) insured off the way more expensive SAN freaking DIMAS. So thanks got helping me get siding I’m going to love for decades to come!

  • That $US699 Starfire I bass is now going for $AU3000 retail in Australia. We sure do pay the Australia tax. Oh well, at least the P5 is still barely under a grand.

  • Lobster ???? I have 2k for a 5 string bass that had to do it all, live, studio.. What say you??

  • Can anyone identify the flamed sunburst 5-string bass with fretted maple (?) fretboard behind Lobster?

  • Glad to see the Sire P5 made the cut. Got me them Post-Covid Supply Chain Blues again…

Cool that the Guild won, glad to see them competing again.

  • Over the past year I've had 3 hand related surgeries,(2 Carpal tunnel and a left middle finger trigger release)……needless to say it's been a tough year. As a result I have started using shorties which I absolutely love ! I have a G& L Fallout, A Sire U5 and a Gretsch Electromatic Jr……..I have to stop watching your channel lol ! I love the feel of the Sire but was really disappointed in the output of the pickups. I swapped out the pups for a P/J EMG Geezer set…….problem solved sounds feels great. The Gretsch felt and sounded really nice for a bass at that price point but yup you guessed it the noise was too big an issue to overcome. Swapped out for an active P/J EMG set,(In a soapbar format)….wow what a difference! Even when my hands are fully healed I may never go back to a 34" scale again. : )

  • Howdy, might anyone shed some light on your preferences between a berhinger bd1 and a caline cp60?
I know sansamps are superior, but Im looking for a budget alternative.
Thanks, I trust the Lobster's opinion hopefully you Lobsterittes will help me out !!

  • I just like passive basses, because it's simple , no batteries just the sound of the bass and the sound of the amp.

  • Your bass reviews are really helpful. I actually wanted to buy an affordable P Bass and went with Squier 70s Classic Vibe. However the quality of its neck was so bad that I was disappointed and gave it back. Your recommendation of the Sire P5 and the Dimarzio Relentless Billy Sheehan pickups really helped me to get a great low-priced P Bass. Thanks Sir!

  • Very interesting!
Really, all three of the ‘worst basses’ were potentially great basses, that didn’t deliver what they should have, for the price range. I like that.
Conversely, the ‘Top 3’ killed on the “bang-for-the-buck” ratio.
Sire is gonna have to build another factory – they’ve been discovered!
Thanks for another excellent review, Lobster!

  • Worth it for the lobster claw schtick alone! Interesting to see the Charvel San Dimas as the worst. I've been really curious about them — they look high quality. Too bad. Sires are a great deal; not surprised to see one in your "best" list.

  • With all due respect….

You named a bunch of great stuff about the Charvel, and ONE thing makes it the abosulute WORST? The EASIEST thing to fix on any instrument is electronics. The playability, hardware, fretwork, fit and finish and comfort is the HARDEST to accomplish and the bass absolutely MURDERED every other bass in the video. You MUST have something you adore about it, because you did 4-5 videos on it, and you never got rid of it. It's a PHENOMENAL bass, with a simple to fix flaw. I personally own that exact model, and if you set it up properly (any bass needs set up right) and my bass doesnt have that buzz.

You found one thing, and panned the entire bass for it. The Sire had the same issues you said about the charvel, (upgrade the electronics and pickup misses LOW END? ON A BASS) but its on your best list. The Guild is like playing a refrigerator on your lap and does ONE tone well. Hardly a "best" of anything.

Try harder next time. These basses varied so widely that there simply is no comparing and rating them against each other.

  • Be warned guys the Starfire is a one trick pony.. but that one sound is very very old school good 🙂

  • I’m a beginner bass guitar student and bought a Gretsch short scale cuz I needed a short scale and it was affordable. I really like the sound so far and I don’t really care if it has single coil pu or hums. Just sounds good and very easy to play. But if I go pro, I will invest in a p or j bass maybe. I’ll also check out the Guild and Sire. I don’t think it’s smart to buy an expensive instrument for a beginner til your sure you want to pursue it seriously. IMO.
