Issues With Swapping Guitar Necks | Guitar Tech Tips | Ep. 77 | Thomann
Can I simply swap a bolt-on neck? Can I mix brands? Will a strat neck fit on a tele?
I’ve heard these questions a lot and it’s time to talk about it.

I bought a cheap tele for the body and found a squire neck for $75 but I'm afraid it won't fit. Should I take the chance? What would a shop roughly charge to modify it to fit?
So in short:
'We have a patent and author rights over our gear so you can not do anything creative'
A while ago I was on reverb looking for a new neck for my strat. I didn't look at the description and ended up with a left handed neck. (I usually play right handed, but I do have a left handed guitar.) The neck looked upside down and was a bit irritating. I contacted the seller and thankfully, they refunded me and I bought a right handed neck.
Liked the video. I just put locking tuners on my ibey rg. sweet. I found you..got a guitar fetish tele neck to put on a strat body..i just want t make that. guitars are happiness..for real. subbed.
Just hand me a Les Paul, SG or Byrdland and I'm good to go.
Question, I have a 90s model Gretsch G2101. I've swapped the original p90 with a lolar p90 and I want to put a fatter gretsch neck on it. I want to have a gretsch neck though. Any idea where to aquire the neck only? Amd can you tell me anything about that particular model. I've had it since around 1990 and I play it everywhere and love it.
So I've done I to I swaps with great results going from 9 to 12" radius
Hi, thanks for this video! I have two questions:
– The first, I have a gap at the junction of the body and the neck, above the low E. Not under the neck, but at the side; I can pass a piece of paper through it.
– The second, I have one of the screws that doesn't offer any resistance when I tighten it, but it's clearly still tightening the neck since I have to force it at the end of its travel.
I wanted to know if these two parameters can affect resonance and sound quality or not?
Thanks in advance for your answer!

also : all the positive valuations poeple do: it just cant be that only three years after purchasing the guitar i end up havin a slighly warped neck. also also i can fit my nail beneath of at least three frets which is even from my almost intermediate players view a total disaster. so folks : you want a good guitar ? save some buks and dont go cheap for at the end you have the same amount of cost like siply saving money to purchase a good jackson or Ibanez. wannabe " harley " beneton no mo thats for sure. has nothing to do with thomann allthough such a huge company should have some decent class and let no trash guitars enter their shop but since i am not the manager i cant do nothing about it. But selling guitars whom you as pros have to expect causing somewhere down the line issues, should not only be a absolute nono for such a great company but also lawfuly a absolute nono. so whatever i do and no mater how long i have to wait : i will do all i can to never ever again buy a product that has the name "harley " beneton on it ….never ever again and yeah i am pritty much disapointed from Thomann being a huge company and having that huge name and then selling stuff to cheap to even be allowed be mentioned in that store …. unreal how things change because years back if one mentioned Thomann it used to be like saying one got quality but now ? well even the body of that strat i thought to give a chance is such a soft wood , one tiny hit with the cable caused imediatly a dent
never ever ever again "harley " unless the name davidson comes with it as for your harley benetons : if i had an oven thats the perfect burning wood for that MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND MY OPINION BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE TRASH I PAYED 179€ FOR BACK IN 2023
so i am screwd with my harley Beneton Strat whos neck for some reason has a twist in it and changing the neck costs more then the guitar itself so question: why do you sell trash that cannot be fixed the cheap way then instead of tellin poeple on your homepage : no parts for this guitar beneath the purchase prise of the guitar available….
and this is why i will never ever ever again throw money into the trashbin by purchasing a n y beneton trash. now i will try to find somewhere a cheap neck from china that has no holes and has the right dimensions to fix wannabe " harley " benetons error
I have a 60s vintera mim. And im bored about the trusrodd on the pickguard. I want to change the neck with a player plus 12 radius to be more comfortable. Its a mim too. Would it fit exactly?
Id like to change my neck but my strst is just a cheap Chinese strat copy
I'm afraid that I'm wasting my money
Can you put a 22fret neck on a body that originally had a 21 fret neck? Same scale length.
I’ve built and modified around a dozen electric guitars so I’m not a professional. And I’ve repaired and setup maybe a half dozen more for other people. I keep a supply of steel shim stock on hand for this type of work and it works great. A good and tight fit makes for nice deep resonance and sustain if the bridge and tremolo are good too. Checking for nice and loud acoustic tones with no electronics or pickguard on the body, bridge and neck is a decent overall quality check. No fret buzz and good string heights over the neck with proper intonation is mandatory as well. Lastly a bunch of tremolo dives and return to in tune is a must before declaring the neck (and nut) ready for the guitar and electronics. Locking tuners are all I use for stability and also so strings off and on are quick.
I like that he starts off with " Any changes will lower the value of your guitar, drastically" I only modify guitars I know I'm planning on keeping for a long time. Even then I may keep the old parts to reinstall if I decide to sell it. When I'm looking thru the "for sale" ads I almost always pass over the "partscasters"
You didnt cover the side of the neck pocket . There could be a gap between the side if the neck and the guitar
Man I really wanted to swap the neck on my Squier without the hassle.
I have a 2009 Strat MIM that only has 21 frets. So I was thinking about swapping necks. It plays nice so I don’t really think it’s worth the trouble for one extra fret.
I got lucky. I bought a squire strat body off ebay, and a fender cbs strat neck again off ebay, and it fit perfectly. But I got really lucky on that one. Damn lucky
I've always wanted to swap my thomson strats neck to a SG gibsons neck
if I replace the 34 inch bass neck on my Dean 09, with a 30 inch; what intonation problems might I incur? Thanks for your advice.

Good to know! I was toying with the idea to replace a vintage style neck on a Mexican Jazzmaster with a modern Fender US neck. Thought this would be a piece of cake, but I should probably do more research first.
I watch your videos everyday and always appreciate your killer playing at the end!
so basically: don't do it
