Everything with the Noble brand is WAY overpriced.
the noble sits better in the mix naturally, the sushi isn't bad though, its really nice but compared to the noble its just less defined
Your comparison and commentary was spot-on, it exactly matches what I heard. The Noble sounds fuller and bigger in the low end, and has some nice harmonic content in the mids. I have a Noble on my live pedalboard and it sounds great, but I think the subtleties are lost live. it's expensive, big and heavy, and the Finally is so close. The Noble's bass control is really nice in that it never gets boomy and I'll miss that. I'm definitely getting a FInally v3, and I thought about selling the Noble. But I think that like you I'll leave the Noble at home for recording, and the Finally will go to gigs.
Great video!
The Noble is much darker than the sushibox, but both do sound excellent!
Thank you my friend !!! Is this first song from the Argentinian composser Fito Paez and the great bassist Guille Vadala ? all the best I will have my Sushibox
Great comparison! Was that “Circo Beat” bassline ??
I bought a tech 21 YYZ based on your recommendation, now I'll probably think about the sushi box ????, I use the noble simulation on my hx one is good sound
Thanks to you I just ordered a Finally v3. This is the final pedal I needed. They said it's gonna ship by Monday. Your next video should be a blind test for us!
I use a Edison preamp. Try that one.
i'm here just to praise the fito paes bass line!!!!
It's less about the tube and more about the transformer. The "tone" of both is great. But the Noble has that difficult-to-define "heft," "weight", and/or "depth" to the tone that can only come from hefty transformers. It's a feel thing more than a tone thing.
I own two of the Finally DI pedals, the original and V2. I love them for most of the basses I use. What I hear here, which is the same as my real world opinion, is a slight mid bump that the Noble doesn't have but the Noble is a little more full in the lows. I would bet you could get either of these close to the other with just a little EQ.
For my money, the Sushi Box sounds fantastic in a smaller package for considerably less money, and I don't see a reason to grab a Noble, as cool as they are.
The Noble sounds better with the drums, the Sushi sounds better alone. The Sushi is more on the mlds. The Noble is more "full", if you know what I mean.
Great video. They both sound great but even through my stock iPhone earbuds I hear a little more warmth in the low end with the Noble, but with some tighter low mids in the Sushibox. I'd have to hear how they both move air in live settings. I appreciate that they're both good sounding, but with enough differentiation in the character. Sushibox doesn't sound lik a clone to me but it definitely has a place at the table.
I think it would be a closer call if you put the Noble against the neptunium, hope you can get your hands on one a make that video.
Noble wins – but I see no reason to switch from my Shiftline Olympic MkIIIS. Just a different flavour, really.
For me it is the KHAN VTDI. I also own the noble, but with the two tubes it sounds more immediate and modern versus the KHAN's more vintage sound. Like you, I take the KHAN on gigs while the Noble stays at home for recordings.
Hi Ivan,
What are your thoughts if any on the EBS valve drive DI?
It would have been worth mentionning Sushi Box also make the Neptunium which is based on the Noble.
I usually use the 2 cab sim'd XLR outs from an Orange Bass Butler but have a Finally V3 on my board as a safety net for when there's only 1 channel available for whatever reason. It works well and form factor is great.
I would have liked a comparison with realistic settings. Most people probably don't get a Noble to not use the EQ
Call me crazy, but I like my RNDI just as much as either of these, especially when I add an EQ (I use the Broughton Parametric)
Both sound really damn great! The Noble has a slightly ”beefier” vibe, which will sound great in recording situations – but I think that the SushiBox might have an advantage live with that lack of (could be) boomy lows.
The noble has a natural headroom tbh at the sushi box lacks
I definitely hear the difference. I don’t understand how the noble sounds so full and yet clear. Noble for me, but I was impressed with the Sushi box
Sushibox really knows his stuff. He also has his on versions of the Noble that are pretty true to the original besides the power supply.
The transformers used in sushibox dis are noticeably better sounding than the Jensen's used in the Noble imo
Had the finally v3 for bit and was VERY impressed.
The Neve RNDI beat it out for my preferred sound and playing feel. But man that sushi box was so good.
If anyone wants a tube on their board BUY THIS
As an owner of a Noble and a fan of the sushi box, I'm really excited about the video. Thank you so much for making it. I also recently got the anagram and I'm digging it. The next thing I wanna do is get the Eventide H 90 because of the awesome sounds I wanna grab off of that . Also added the Eventide knife drop recently. Due to space I would like to swap out my BOSS ES5 for the MorningStar MC6 pro and a looper +midi box to give me a little more space on my Vertex board that has a riser.
When it's time to build my son a board or I need a travel mini board I would definitely go for the sushi box for space it kills for the price and footprint.
I know people probably wonder why is this to building a Professional board that cost thousands for a church gig ?simply the love of Bass. That's why I need a professional coach practice as much as I can having six kids.
Here's my signal chain :
Peterson Strabo stomp HD
Effectrode LA-1A
BOSS ES5 – booked into the BOSS ES 5 is the dark glass anagram, 3Leaf audio Octabvre(April 2025 version(, Eventide Knife drop.
BOSS ES 5 goes to the SFX micro thumperInator
Last in line is the noble
I hand soldered Square plugs with origami cable and have a CIOKS DC 7 power supply.
Main base is a MTD Kingston, Z5 upgraded with Bartolini pick ups and preamp and added hip shot a style bridge to match the hip shot open gear mini tuners. I always use stainless steel round rounds right now using SIT fusions. I love the MTV strands that came with and then I tried the elixir coated stainless steel but wasn't blown away like I thought I would be with the coated strings.
I love that super P Bass from Dan wall I really like it, how do you like it? I I wouldn't mind having one. How do you like that bass? I intentionally switched to an MTD from an old Warwick Corvette five string proline because I wanted that 35 inch scale in 19 millimeter string spacing. My only hang up with the Dean walls is they have 18 instead of 19 mm space. My old Warwick has 16.5 mm which is too tight for trying to work on double thumbing for my large hands.
The noble just has a depth, punch, that tube warmth. It's a special thing that really just stands out as Nobles own thing. You said it. It just surrounds you without taking over. That said sushi sounds amazing as well. The sushi has reall great saturation vibe. Love then both. I bought a noble years ago and it just works as a great clean di for any style. I also just bought the capo. I dont have the money for this stuff, but did it anyway primarily for recording. Cheers for the great review and playing!!
So I bought the Sushi Box Finally v3, and I liked it at first. Then I was re-doing my board and was like hey I can make room selling the Sushi Box and get by with the Regal DI on my Stomp. I removed the Sushi Box Finally in my chain, plugged in and…NOPE…wth was I thinking!! Such a night and day difference. The Sushi Box really thickens up my sound, want it thicker, dial that frequency knob over to about 2 or 3 o'clock and a nice fat tube tone that is awesome.
A week later I added a Barber Linden EQ to the chain with the Sushi Box Finally V3…complete tone heaven! Ditched the Regal DI on the Stomp and just use the Barber and Sushi Box. Those two pedal cost me about $400 (Sushi Box new + Barber Linden EQ used off Reverb) and wow!! To me WAY better than any Noble demo I have ever heard.Period.
Thank for the compare vid Ivan!!
i don't think most people could even tell the difference bass-only in a triangle comparison test. sushi sounds great.
Listening through a decent bluetooth speaker, I can't notice the difference. Without the caption, I would not even know that you'd switched effects.
The Finally is a quarter of the price. Even if I buy a premium eq pedal (such as the Empress) to complement it, it would still end up lighter on my pocket. And I could add a multiple slot One Spot or Cioks which would counter the built-in power supply of the Noble. All in all, I would end up still cheaper with the Sushi Box.
If the Noble had active mid controls, maybe it will slightly sway me towards it
The Noble costs more than I spent on my last car. Literally no one will ever hear the difference in the mix…ever.
Nice vid.
For me both are the same… Thanks Ivan for this Nice review!
Noble is deep more neutral sounding to my ears.
For me, playing Madison Square Dive Bar, the Helix Nobel distortion block wins. It’s almost as good as the real thing, but is a fraction of the cost
Thank you!
the difference is so subtle – Sushibox about to sell alot more of these
