  • Heeey, thank you so much for your support! I forgot to mention in the video that I actually have an affiliate link for LoopyPro (It offers you a 10% discount on the app) –– https://loopypro.com/loopymax However, this is more of an exception, as the developer had to take some extra steps to make it work. Unfortunately, the App Store doesn’t offer a universal system for affiliate programs

  • I can't help but wonder, having owned like 2 ipads and a handful of iphones over the years – how much life can you confidently say you'll get out of the ipad before inevitably needing to buy a new model? I have an ibanez chorus from the 80's that still operates and sounds the same as it did the day it was made. I have a boss delay from 2003 that still operates and sounds the same as it did the day it was made. And I have no reason to think that will change for many many years to come for pretty much my whole pedalboard. I have no faith in an ipad giving me that kind of life and reliability. Apple doesn't exactly have a reputation for designing their products to last. I'm sure you could get a decent number of years from it, but it's only a matter of time before it starts having issues – apps crashing, battery issues, software updates, ios updates breaking things, overheating, device freezing up and needing a restart, etc.

I'm glad this works for some people. For me personally this just seems like so much more of a hassle and over-complication compared to pedals. Are pedals bulky and heavy? Sure. But I have a lot more confidence in the reliability and durability. And they're just so many times more simple than a solution like this. When I'm playing live with my board, 3-4 knobs or so controlling one effect is more than enough to get the sounds I want. I don't need or want to be running an array of VSTs. If I do want to do something more complicated or use plugins and such, I can do so in my daw on my PC for fun or when recording.

There is a lot of potential here, which I acknowledge and respect. But I just want a defined set of effects that I know inside and out, are very simple to use, sound amazing, and are consistent. He isn't really just replacing his pedalboard here with the ipad, he's also using it as like a daw, drum machine, looper, mixer, etc. Which is all great if that works for someone's flow. I like my pedalboard being honed in on it's purpose and nothing else. I already have a PC for doing all of those other kinds of things like recording and stuff.

  • Hi Max, your explanation is so useful for me that I now think to buy your online course and a second-hand Ipad :O Do you think that the IPad 8 would be enough powerful for running Loopypro AND some synths and sampler apps? How much GB would you recommend, 64 or even 128 GB?

  • Do not use an iPad if you’re a performer. An iPad is far more risky than actual pedals. They will fail at a greater rate.

  • As a traveling musician I can't thank you enough for all the valuable information you offered, I have an hx stomp too and will love tyo see that video, and now i gotta get myself an ipad to buy your loopy pro courses you are a great teacher and explain everything perfect, thank you

  • I am on the same journey of trying to use my iPad as a replacement for my pedalboard. My only concern is about reliability. How often do you experience app crashes for instance? I had some with Logic for iPAD, but so far none with Loopy pro. But still I am concerned on using it in a live gig for example.

  • IDK that is damn sluck. Kinda gives you a full daw like setup and are able to easily create custom layouts with knobs and faders and toggles for internal fx control…. So you could have a list of ugly fx interfaces and it doesn't matter, pull the needed controls to the layout and you don't even look at that ugly interface.

  • Hi @max_yar_guitar , awesome video and workflow! Thank you for making this! Since a guitar is involved, what can you say about the overall latency of this setup?

  • Great playing! When demoing tools for the guitar, it never ceases to amaze me how few bother to make music part of the deal. What I call ‘music store’ playing turns me right off any gear demo. Excellent stuff, Max. Subscribed.

  • This feels like a duh-discovery. So natural, why not? I was shopping for a headrush or similar but as you mentioned, I couldn't pick an ecosystem, it's very committal. I'm going to integrate this into my workflow! Thanks m8????

  • I'm really interested, but a little concerned about how complicated it might be. Is it easy enough to build very simple tools within the app? Seems like it should be pretty easy, I'm going to get it and experiment with it this week.

  • I was wondering about the elephant in the room, latency. I see another commenter below, "Lironman", said he (?) had trouble with latency. Through the years, since about 2005, I have periodically tried to use the "latest" computer gear for live audio/guitar work, and every time, it has embarrassed itself with unacceptable latency, dropouts, processing bandwidth limitations, etc.. I keep hoping they'll "turn the corner", but it never seems to get there, dramatic increases in speed and storage capability just get squandered by lazy, all-looks/no-guts, don't-care software bloat, and it always seems that when playing through a software system, one must adapt and "play to the latency". No thanks! You can dial a delay to find out what's the fastest-perceivable slapback or doubling. Generally just a few ms. If the latency is that high or higher, then it's a joke to entertain non-musicians, not a professional tool. Almost nothing based on general-purpose operating systems can guarantee lower latency than that. But they have "real time kernels" and such, I've tried them, but still it seems that the software developers don't understand how to keep their critical processing confined to those channels, and they keep forcing context switches to paint cutesy animated graphics that look just like vintage guitar amp control panels and VU meters and whatever…

  • I sold my Fender Hotrod Deluxe, all my pedals and bought a Positive Grid Spark2 amp; can't be happier.????

  • Happy to see loopy pro getting a lot more coverage. I downloaded it in 2022 and was blown away by the customized ability. It allowed me to build the exact loop pedal. I have been dreaming of. I haven’t used it in a while as I kind of been waiting for the Mac version, but maybe this is enough to make me go back to my iPad for it!

  • I must say, as a transdisciplinary artist, an ipad looks more and more like a worthy all-in-one investment.

  • Hi! thx for this great video and also if you can answer… did you prefer play using a surface control specifically designed with hardware that can handle digital processing FX with an interface for audio, knobs for MIDI controls, buttons for play&stop loops? I mean, i'm trying to develop kind a master surface control plugin HOST. Not only IOS devices can handle audio strong process, also ARM processors such a RPI can perform great and low latency results.
Your point in boring photos are a part of art in all this process, thank bc this emphasize my idea that using like PCs Macs or Notebooks in stage It's a particularly bad idea for a guitarist, even pluginto MIDI controllers. What other options in the market exist to develop particularly a work chain like the one you showed in the video. not much i think.

  • yo max. been following your channel for a while now. got loads of good insight into loopy pro and am proud to say i've completely gone midi now! (cept for one thing!) did you figure out how to get a vocal processor on it that harmonizes and can input the chords from the guitar into it to change the key yet? i still haven't been able to switch out my vocal pedal just yet because of this. would be helpful if you came across it and shared that knowledge! much love and keep it up! ????????

  • Anyone has recommendations for Mac OS? I'm using GarageBand, but it's more focused on recording…

  • Super thank you for the idea! I really love this and i will buy this! Please teach me how to use it on stage, is there no buzz sound or any difficulties about the sound when you use it on gig? I really love the idea about plug ins and the mixer! Its very useful! I want to learn more about this app! Thank you again for sharing! Its a big help for other musicians like me!

  • I’m new to this, but can you run your sound out to an frat speaker, or run it out to a floor power amp, and then to a speaker cab

  • Great video and great gear. You don’t mention a recent iPad price ????

  • What is the signal chain? Guitar > interface > iPad > ? > amp? I’m assuming you’re not using your iPad speakers haha

  • Answer: you like high latency, poor performance, and an unstable connection. Or in other words, you were sponsored.
