The Best Budget Rig under $180… Almost | Mooer Prime M2
The Mooer Prime M2 promises a full guitar rig in a pocket-sized box: 194 effects, amp and cab sims, USB audio, Bluetooth, IR loading, and a looper. It’s clever. It’s compact. And it’s clearly aimed at players who want to practice, record, or jam without hauling a full board around.
But there is a catch…
In this video, I put it through its paces from clean tones to high gain, and from practice tools to workflow quirks. And yes, there’s one big thing you’ll want to know before buying.

I think the power button is in the wrong place. It could be accidently hit by your foot.
Nice little nod to Crowded House ????
I won a more robust multi effects unit, larger, Wah pedal, no USB but for someone noodling around trying to learn in their living room it’s way more than enough. I can see where that small size Mooer delivers and has so many features that better players could use. I think maybe fiddling with all those menus at a gig would not be helpful. BTW-you are fond of oddly shaped guitars and headstocks aren’t you? The first electric guitar ???? that ever caught my eye was the white Strats that The Beach Boys played and I thought that was how an electric guitar should look, and sound. I was in middle school playing other instruments and in the percussion ???? section of the high school band. I played a little soprano uke around the house all the time but it was almost 30 years later that I decided I wanted a guitar and an amp and assumed I would learn quickly like all my previous instrument forays. Age takes its toll and finding out I’m autistic complicated a lot of things. But, I’m still trying to learn and am a gear/tech head so I like learning about guitars, amps and pedals etc. You’re doing a great job with your channel and I generally learn something useful. Keep strumming. ❕????☮️????????????⭐️
Gotta tell ya, I've been using a Sonicake Pocket Master and it certainly needed a lot of tweaking to get the tone I was after, but funny enough I already have a Katana:GO so I fired that one up and used its settings as a reference. I ended up tweaking it to my liking because there were some EQ bands differences, but I'm really convinced by the little cheapo thing. Got it from Amazon Prime day at 45, so it's a steal already.
You can use a little knob to tweak without using the app, but the app is better because it edits it without putting the pedal into a mode.
I was eyeing this one too, but I realized the main use for it was to once a year gig with my bro, and I just needed to be able to connect to a regular amp (something that is a no-no with the KATANA) so I took a shot and I got lucky.
Won't be long before we have wireless no latency, clean, full tone…as it is the Prime M2 is crazy tech for the money…
I have this unit and this unit and the foot switch. I can tell you the biggest disappointment.
It’s either looper mode or preset.
So, if you’re using one mode you have to leave it to use the other. That means, for example, you can’t change a preset and still see which your loop status or control the looper without changing modes.
Sorting that when using foot switch is firmware would be a game changer. Without it, it’s home practice only.
MIDI controller is possible but doesn’t provide used visual feedback (mvave chocolate).
Sounds are ok for me.
Sonicake Pocket Master is a budget option.
I like the looper quite a bit. The need for a phone app doesn't bother me (and I have a feeling that a desktop app will be forthcoming at some point). On the other hand, I really like the tones from the Tonex One and the Valeton GP5 and those are comparable or lower in price. That said, I'm wondering what is coming next :).
Hi Andy,
I actually bought one myself,a few weeks ago.
I'm returning it tomorrow though.
I'll be back in order to watch this, and drop my 2cents on it.
Thanks .
I'd rather Tone X at that price point but hey, gotta love a screen! The phone thing is a bit of a bummer, but I think most such units at this price point require an external editor.
Okay – I will really go slowly this time
A smartphone is a computer with SIM card functions that allows paid for services allowing mobile WiFi along with voice and video connections via your service provider.
Take the SIM card out of you smartphone and you still have a working computer.
Now taking it up a notch
A smartphone without SIM card will connect to WiFi. This may be limited by password access or 'free' access with or without data slurping.
Most apps on a smartphone do not need a SIM card to work.
Connections will depend on what your smartphone can do and what you have set it up to do.
Access your banking app on a smartphone without SIM card – see what I mean?
In anticipation: yes you could have operated all that iPhone and iPad stuff from an old iPhone or iPad.
Repeat: you do not need a SIM card to operate a smartphone as a computer. ???? ???? ???? ???? ????
That pedal has the vibes of the GL-100 plus a ton of FX, cool !
I have the GL-100 and I'm very happy with it the only down is the plastiky box , no complaints but I would pay a little bit more to have this beautiful pedal in a metal box, if you are looking for the ultimate looper at affordable price I can recommend the Mooer GL-100 .
Love the 8min slots. U can effectively record full songs on the fly also you are able to run external pedals with this device if you just don't like the sounds at all. It's brilliant. Picking one up this week❤
Thx for the video! How does it compare to the Valeton GP-5?
WOW!
Looks nice. Anyone know the difference between this on the P2? Seem very similar…except the price
'Stone Cold Crazy' one of my faves.
@ 8:05 take the SIM card out. Cellnet phone without SIM card is fully functional (*really!) but you will not be able to make or receive phone calls OTHER than to emergency services. That may not be true universally – check for your own country.
Your cellnet phone will connect to wf-ifi provided things have been paired properly and passwords agreed and inserted properly
The Baum headstock is still ugly as f***….Like a hanging ball sack
is this screen running on 5 fps? what is the matter with these manufacturers? cant they make a nice fluid touchscreen ui? phones have been doing this for 15 years
I think as a practice option at home, it has its place. Yeah, I'd use it.
Amazing what is available today with gear. Never been better times
there is a whole world between way too high gain and pristine clean, which I never hear in a demo… As I have discovered buying, trying and selling quite a few of these things from Line6 / ZOOM / BOSS / Tonex / Mosky . IF it is possible to get a blues tone, it'll take days to get something coming close to acceptable. ALSO, the fewer knobs, the more user unfriendly – forget a quick adjustment or take your pc to your gigs and start fumbling with that. If the app is as user friendly as the Tonex app, forget about it, I've been playing with the same "almost good" because I can't be bothered fighting the app any more than I already did.
I really like your videos and playing abilities. ????I would sum up this pedal by saying: "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". It has more than the average person
will ever use or want.
A great demo, and, undoubtedly, a very powerful unit for its size and price, but… no, thanks, for the reason you mentioned about using the phone and app…
That's pretty interesting….I really like that you aren't stuck with the same effect from the looper. Thanks for this I will be awaiting your next cheers????
one of my favorite things about learning to use the looper was the way it forced me to learn to count and clean up my rhythm. These quantizing might be nice to have live, but they're poison for practice in my opinion
Not interested in the product, but enjoy your delivery. Cheers!
Wow….to think it started with the Line 6 Pod kidney bean processor to this…nice…but I concentrate on your playing style.
