The BEST Guitar for Worship??
Today we are doing the ultimate guitar shootout to crown the BEST Guitar for Worship music. I’ve created a demo that I think is pretty reflective of a lot of contemporary worship songs, and I’ll be playing each of my go-to guitars through the same pedals, amps, and processing. All of these guitars are tone machines in their own right, and I’m willing to bet, you also have a version of each of these. They are:
Gretsch White Falcon G6139T – CBDC
Gibson Les Paul Standard 2008
Fender Stratocaster Standard 2005
Custom Build Fender Telecaster with Elliott Telewacker Pickups
Certainly, each guitar is a fantastic choice- they are classic! But, after hearing these back to back, I was shocked with how much I liked some, and disliked others. But, as we know, sometimes we get too caught up listening with our eyes, so to level the playing field I’m bringing in my wife, a non-guitarist, to listen through and give her thoughts on which guitar sounds best. It’s always a great idea to get feedback from your audience. And let me tell you, the results here were shocking! Then, I’m going to put on a blindfold and see if I still pick the same guitar and can identify which one is which. I highly recommend listening through the audio with your eyes closed to see how much of a difference you hear between the guitars. I think you’ll be shocked how subtle it is in some cases, and drastic in others.
Let’s find out, are Gretsch Guitars the best for worship? Is it the chimey clear high end of Fender guitars? Or is it the dark horse, Gibson guitars with that warm low end and smooth attack that takes the crown. Let’s do this.

Does anyone know the song intro he is playing to?
My man hating on strats is making me sad. The way you feel about Les Paul’s is how I feel about strats. It was my first good guitar. My first dream guitar.
My ear wants a Fender sound. I once had a Strat, traded it for a PRS, then tried to make the PRS sound like a Strat. I realised it is ridiculous, so I sold the PRS and got myself a Strat again. Now I own a Telly as well – a guitar I once hated.
For me
1 Gretsch
2. Tele
3. Strat
4. Les Paul
All of them sound and look awesome!
No doubt Telecaster ruled! Gretch was next for me, just sounded pretty and ambient, 3rd Strat, the tone just popped through the mix to m in a good way. Sorry the LP was last. That being said, they all sounded good.
I use a Les Paul Standard 50s and a Les Paul Junior on Sundays and have zero issues with either!
I think the Tele is the most balanced of all of them… unless you go with an HSS Strat or Everything Axe Strat. But anything will work, and I think you demonstrated that well!
Great to see your channel Justin. 🙂 I rotate in a Firebird, 2 SGs, a Flying V, a Dean Mach V, a PRS Hollowbody II Piezo, 4 Strats, 3 LPs, a White Falcon, a Centennial Gentleman, 4 Peavey Wolfgangs, a Peavey HP Signature, an Epiphone Sheritan, a Steinberger, a '60 Silvertone Jupiter, and a few others. Sometimes I force myself to take the least likely candidate for the set at hand, and then force myself to stretch my imagination. As long as you choose appropriate airy amp tones, any one will work just fine. Just play from the heart and worship on your fretboard. 🙂 A true heart of worship will cut through any mix. Blessings bro.
Thank you, this helps me a lot.
Nice comparison. It's a matter of personal taste. Some of the best guitarists in the world, with great tone, are Strat players. For example: guitar phenom Lincoln Brewster. The chime and versatility of the pickup positions in a Strat make it a great choice for worship. Furthermore, you can put a humbucker in a Strat for thicker tones. God bless.
also interesting to know how did you EQ the strat to be on the same volume level with the others..
which of the strat pickup would you use for lead lines, Justin?
awesome.. that shrill is actually cool 😀
my fave guitar for worship is a strat . well a PRS Silver Sky . i got a Gretsch Nashville . its sounds okay but the PRS SS sounds much better . but hey i dont own a white falcon . maybe its time i bought one
I literally don’t understand why you would be playing the Strat on the bridge pick up? That’s the worst position by far on a Strat. Every other position would sound better
I agree, regarding the Strat. It is great, though, for very crystalline chording, and I use mine for a few worship songs.
Les Paul struggled to cut through the mix.
Tele to cut through mix and do everything pretty well. Bridge pickup unmatched… but Jazzmaster because I like options and it also does everything well, particularly the JMascis JM.
Which 2 Gretsch guitars would sound best for me out of the duo jet, the falcon, the tennessee or the nashville
First time I’ve watched one of your videos and loved it! I’m still trying to achieve better tones for our small worship team and play a LP Studio. Nice sound and good fill but leaning towards getting a tele. I have a basic BOSS GT-1 pedalboard that I’ve tried to customize and have downloaded patches. Could you please share some brief info of your pedalboard setup here and/or recommendations? I’m still not 100% happy with my tones but can’t break the bank yet with a Line6 Helix. (I’d like to stay with an all-in-one setup). Thanks for any bones you could throw my way!
Been there…done that…the best one is LEAVE! QUIT! ???????????? No notice just walk out.
really cool vid. super cute interaction with wife too. honestly? congregation wont care. the most "different" was strat compared to all others. everything else, all "the same" for most congregation. my safebet … is tele.
