Marshall DSL1HR Review – Small but Mighty!

Here is my review of this little Marshall head, I’ve been using it since February 2021 and it’s a small weapon!
Hope you like my review, if so let me know in the comments! 😀

  • Hi Sergio, thank's for your cool review! I bought it, after I have seen it, and it is an amazing little rock machine! The overdrive channel is louder than a 16W Princeton, if you crank it. You can't get clean tones without any dirt, which are loud enough, so I might check the dsl20 as you said, too. But the overdrive sounds are really great.

  • Great review with big full tones in your recording that don’t sound thin. Thank you for turning up the reverb up in increments, eventually going up the whole way! Lots of reviewers don’t do that. It’s also is not a bad price for a Marshall even in November 2024.

  • Awesome review! Do you think this amp is loud enough to keep up with a drummer who plays at a moderate to lighter volume? (Playing pop, Motown, lighter rock, jazz etc.)

  • That is a great tube amp. I’ve had mine for a few years and it’s great sounding. I tried mine through a 1 12” boss katana speaker, which didn’t sound great. I built a cab from 1” thick plywood for 2 10” eminence speakers and it sounds amazingly clear.

  • Is it possible to hook up the DSL-1cr (combo) to the cab (MX112R ?) as my Origin 5c.

This way I could make use of both amps on the same 12" cabinet, an ABY switch might do the trick. Am I correct?
It would be the most affordable way to get DSL and Origin (I like both) over a 12" speaker. Have checked DSL,Origin as MX112R (that is yours I believe in the video) are 16 ohm.

    TIA for any advice ????

  • Wow, the amp sounds amazing! Have you tried the emulated out? I trying to figure out if it would sound good through headphones for silence practice

  • Thank you so much for the detailed review. I've doing research for a few months for a good home practice amp at a reasonable price and this totally convinced me. Thanks again!

  • Bought the same attenuator after seeing this video, very happy with it in combination with my dsl1hr ????????. Quick question: i kept watching the fan while playing, but it didn’t turn at all. Perhaps because 1w is just too low to generate heat? Does yours turn, and if so: all the time or now and then? 🙂 Thanks in advance!

  • Complete JUNK!! Jmp1 or Jcm1. The DSL series are cheaply made and very difficult to find useable sounds. Thin and nasty.

  • After some decades of rather love-hate concerning Marshalls and some testing of some newer models, which also did not convince me really, but at least more than JCM's the DSL1-HR simply was love at the first tone!

The by far best Marshall clean sound ever plus an excellent 100% Marshall high-gain sound, with it's own, but great character. This tiny box really has "balls"! Not only a Metal amp, but also, but also nice Crunch to Heavy Rock tones.

Perfect for recording through a load box and with cabinet IR's.

  • Hola, con dsl5 tiens la opción de reducir la potencia a 0,5 w y en el canal clean tienes un control de volumen y de gain…..
A mí dsl1 le echo en falta esa control de gain en el canal clean
