Getting The Best REVERB For Acoustic Guitar

In this video I’m looking at how to get the best reverb with your acoustic guitar and by best I mean most natural. Even though I’m demonstrating the Strymon Bluesky and the Fishman AFX Acoustiverb, the reverb you’re hearing is all from a basic plugin on my DAW to show you that you can get a natural sounding Reverb from anything, as long as it has all the controls that I talk about in the video.

  • The guitar playing doesn't indicate what pedal you are using… unless I'm missing something on the video.

  • Have you ever tried the Cloudburst by Strymon? It’s an ambient reverb I use that with my acoustic and have a footpedal connected that sustains and layers the reverb. I keep tone knob all the way to the left, and predelay low. Also it can do some synth sounds which is cool on some select songs. But I still think I want an additional room/hall type reverb option. Would love to know your thoughts

  • Hey Fabian. Just found you through Old MIke on Skool. Can't wait to do a deep dive on your channel. We are a family of musicians and Tech is so hard to stay ahead of. Thanks.

  • The Fishman AFX line of pedals have a sidechain circuit, which supposedly splits the signal. The dry signal goes through unaffected, and the effect (reverb, delay, or whatever) is applied only to the other split signal.

  • Great video Fabian. I’m still experimenting with the tc hof mini. I didn’t know the reason why plate and spring were even called that! ????‍♂️ but its good to know.

  • One of the best things I can recommend is a parallel looper (Saturnworks makes one I have) and it allows you to mix the reverb in like you would with an aux send in a recording situation, and it takes out the tone suck of running your guitar in series into the pedal and dialing the level back. In fact, I crank the effect level and decay on the pedal and then adjust the parallel looper to achieve the sound of an authentic acoustic with a big reverb underneath it.

  • I picked up a Blue Sky cause of your older pedal board video, I like your sound, but that pedal did t really work for me. Currently I just use a Helix Rack

  • Fabian I think you’re great and I thank you for such great content but please stop saying ‘Acewstic’ lol

  • Love it. I use the Strymon Flint and have enjoyed its simplicity when applying it to my acoustics, but I’ve been needing a change lately. I am thinking of swapping out the flint for a UAFX Golden.

  • Do you use two pickups? With K&K Pure mini in this guitar, Fabian? If it so, how did you manage the cables? Did you create a new hole for this magnetic pickup?

  • Hi Fabian, great explanation. I've got several reverbs, but my reference is the Earquaker Devices Dispatch Master reverb/delay. It's not very versatile (only one type of reverb, one type of delay), but what it does, it does perfectly. And the way the reverb and delay interact is subtle but magic… My new toy is a Neunaber Immerse Mk II, which is incredible, particularly in stereo, but it's a bit OTT if you just want a simple, natural reverb (although it can do that really well…) ????

  • When you hear folks say I love the acoustics in that room. That is the sound I like. A little touch of reverb to accent the vocals is great. Thanks Fabian.

  • There's something I've been meaning to try for a while and that's using a compressor on the reverb track, sidechained from the guitar track to duck the reverb when the guitar is being played. It's quite a common proctice for vocals but I've never heard of anyone using this technique for acoustic guitar. So reverb will be ducked ever so slightly when the guitar plays so the instrument gets less drowned by the reverb and in consiquence is the guitar being more clear and articulate . Have any of you guys thought about or tried this?

  • My two cents: Reverb pedals (and guitar pedals in general) react much better to electric guitars than acoustic ones. To make the pedals come alive, make sure you have a quality preamp, boost, and/or compressor between your guitar and pedals.

  • Hi Fabian,
    Thank you for the advice!
If you get a chance, try the Source Audio Collider. I'm totally in love with their Room for Acoustics.
