This one time, I put fresh strings on, and OMG the tone was glorious.
Did you take the tape off the veneer before you installed it?
My rule of ????thumb. No plastic ,no veneer,no shims under the saddle or nut,and definitely no crappy piezo pickups, and that should solve the problem. At least my guitar problems.
The 1st tone stick, I think it was maple sounded awesome. I could definitely hear a difference between each tone stick
…or, you could just buy one of those comb saddles from graphtec and save you the whole hassle
Where do you get the nut and saddle vise? All I can find is a stationary one from $tew Mac; I like yours a lot more.

I certainly noticed a difference during the with/without testing. With the tone stick, the guitar sounded warmer and seems to have more sustain. I may be wrong but, I think that a softer wood would give a softer tone compared to a harder wood. Right?
do a double upgrade and add a bone nut and saddle at the same time for those that have plastic parts
my takamine saddle is molded to fit around the piezo pickup so you cannot sand the bottom of it to lower the action…..really annoying

ah yeah I think there was one stuck to the underside of my fishman but unfortunately due
to a faulty glitchy pre amp it was never used but what a lovely woody tone
(at the time I wondered what it was, thinking it a shim ?)
when it the pre wasn't glitching. complete perfectly balanced guitar but I no longer amplify by
piezoelectric undersaddle no need as I just mic if I need acoustic or even fox the whole lot.

I don't understand why people use acoustic guitar pickups. Those aaalways sound plasticy no matter how good, expensive, "advanced", botique, mojo, or whatever they are. There is no better thing than a mic for that. You wouldn't use Piezos for vocals, would you? Imagine a world in which we would clamp them to our necks like it's the most normal thing to do. Then comparing the soundquality of different vocal Piezos on YouTube while there are proper microphones around. ??? …See, same thing. It's so obvious once you think about it.
Acoustic guitar pickups are like 80s Hammond emulations on Yamaha keyboards. Good Lord, just use the real/propper thing, the technology is available to you, don't you all know?!!

I hate piezo espacially on folk steel strings guitars. It never sounds as a true acoustic guitar. Such a "pis aller" (worse solution) though it sounds pretty decent on a nylon classic guitar. For a real good and realistic sound, nothing better than a dynamic mic because you have to record air moving more than olny string vibrations.
