  • Hi and thanks for the review of this model Gibson V. These have quite a story. I have an '81 black one also. These originally all came with a 5 ply body made of maple and walnut layers and 2 color choices. A walnut top or a natural finish maple top. The walnut was the more popular finish. None ever sold well The maple finish guitars were not selling and Gibson took the remaining ones and painted them about 10 different colors including black. The Tim Shaw designed pickups each have two separate magnets, are single coil and are essentially noiseless as a result. Mine has a black pickguard and knobs,I bought some gold speed knobs like yours . 82 I think was the last year and they were gone. Not humbuckers in tone or outout, but a very unique tone range not unlike like a strat almost ……and great for blues. When Bernie Marsden's estate was selling his guitars, included was one of these black ones as well. You have one of Gibson's wierdest and rare guitars!!!

  • Peter Green was the greatest and is underrated and almost forgotten these days. It's so sad and unfair to one of the pioneers of British blues.
