Hi, have you had any experience with the Vox Valvetronix 50 watt Amp. I like the amp but it has such a "bell" sound at any setting. Any suggestions to change this. Thanks, Ray Oklahoma
I remember TV repair house calls replacing tubes… before that there was radio repair and then transistor radios replaced the old tube radios. Does anyone still make tube radios or TV's ???
I know of one channel thatt has done a few guitar body chopping videos. I'm not into it in most circumstances. It made sense in their context.. He only chopped some super cheap Amazon or eBay guitars, some he rated high value to money. To see if they were engineered wood, laminate, MDF, finger jointed or similar. Due to floods of comments saying they were one of the above. And a prevailing myth that theres no way it's wood. Body Wood: Other is a real thing but not a problem to me if they disclose it in specs. The Guitar Center special run Daphne blue Squier Classic Vibe Jag and pink Jazzmster (only those 2 colors, the rest are all wood} are a modern foam and wood block body. Pretty sure they use a mould with wood blocks placed before, then blow mould shell resin and hard inflating foam, cementious. Its white. Ive touched it and its real. You'll only find with major damage in the |pla2ces no one cuts..
Keisel
It's a nice amp…But not as nice as a 1979 MusicMan 210 Sixty Five. That IS the best amp ever made!!
I think BOSS is well regarded for effects, but not as well recognized for amps. But they've made them for a long time. I play bass and Chapman stick, and for years used a BOSS KC-350 keyboard amp (350W, 1×15). Because the stick has the range of a piano, I needed a fuller range than a guitar or bass amp, and the KC delivered that- gorgeous sound, full range, loud and clear, lots of inputs. I can't speak to their other amps, but amps aren't anything new for Boss.
I first bought the Boss bass headphone amp that has similar features to the amp, then bought the bass version of this amp in a 2×10 combo. The band LOVED the sound of this amp! Just as a straight amp, but effects are top drawer as well, with the possible exception of the built-in compressor, which is fine, but I think there are stand-alone devices that might be better. A typical comment from our drummer was "OMG – I can hear every note!" – apparently their past bassists were generally harder for him to hear. And that's not because I'm louder — it's just a very clear, projecting tone.
Loud is no problem for this amp, and there's a huge amp-only version that I think is 500 watts. But the 2×10 combo is a worthy choice at a good price.
There are two aspects of this that need improvement, tho:
1. The phone app – you need it to set up effects, tweak the panel controls, and setup responses to the (optional) breakout switch box. It's a little clunky, and things can be buried in the hierarchy of screens needed when you have so little real estate for design. It makes it difficult to get the exact setup you need. There is a Windows app as well, but I haven't tried it.
2. The optional floor switchbox. The buttons have some very odd functions, and several things can't be used together as there are mode switches that change things. They should have just added enough switches to not need modes, so that everything is a click away.
As it is , it can take two separate buttons, even 3, to make an intended effects selection, and it's to much dancing around to do while playing.
what happened to Katana air review? is it always like this?
phil is the president of guitar
lmfao “Soylent”
I agree. Had Marshall, Mesa/Boogie and Fenders. Katana Air is better.
I still like roland GA-212 more then katana tho.
Hilarious stuff, love it !
Selling gear on Reverb and getting a 1099? If I bought a guitar for $6000.00 and then sold if for $5000.00 I would be taking a $1000.00 loss. Then I have to pay taxes on 5K when I was already taking a loss? Can't I prove that I took a loss?
Came across an ELKA (AC1211OR) Stereo Chorus. With an Overdrive Channel and Clean Channel. Its fantastic.Made in Italy.Talk about clean .Just beautiful.I love it with my First series Strat Ultra.Perfect together. Thanks Philip.Great content.
I really dislike the katana amps. My favorite in that power/price range is Vox MV50 boutique or Minisuperbeetle

Bro! Same minds! Don't destroy a musical instrument. Never!
Let it it live. Let it breathe. Let it love. Let it be loved.
If a DB wants to smash it, how about donate that instrument to kids or people in need, whether kids or adults. That's how we get our next Hendrix or Page or Satch or whoever. Destroying a viable instrument is gross. IMHO (not so humble BTW, because I'm very passionate about this)
Burn Times would be a great band name! ????????????????????
For hanging guitars use hilti toggles 265 pounds for half inch drywall each. We mount TV's with them they r the best.
As for the Boss Katana amp being the best.. I’m 74 .. been playing guitar for over 50 years.. my set up consists of a pedal board with few pedal .. Boss eq. MXR sugar drive. Wampler Deluxe.. Phim Soul.. and MXR Delay.. I toggle Between my 65 reissue Princeton reverb ( with a 12” speaker) and Fender Blues jr.. Guitars I’ll alternate between Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite, and PRS Mira.. Very Happy.. but hearing this hype about the Boss Katana.. I just purchased one a ..100 watt head.. from Guitar Center today.. It’s GOING BACK Tomorrow.. Sounds like a Toy
Phil, I picked up a G&L Asat Special Tribute. Love the guitar but found the Jumbo Single coils very trebley, no matter what I tried. I finally replaced the neck pickup with a $40. Wilkinson mini humbucker off Amazon and its Perfect ! Love it.
My friend said something silly yesterday. “I got to tell you a secret, I’m taking my Katana to the show I’m about to do.” Like it was shameful. My response “you should, they are kind of amazing. I only chose the 1w Marshall head because I don’t need as many options as you do as a professional who plays with other people. I just sit at home and play off tablature.”
G&L showed a Fallout with a trem at Namm, looking forward to when that hit the shelves
There needs to be a Mitch hedberg reference every week
Katana 100 w for acoustic?
Roland sd 35 sound canvas player, was cool
My first truck had no side mirror.
Dude you left out Fractal AX8 and or
A Marshall dsl 40C .
Killer killer clean tone out of the Marshall dsl 40 and that amp has THE Marshall growl more so than many Marshall heads etc etc .
All tube Amos were born from Fender bassman amps anyhow just tweaked here and there.
Hey Phill, the Synergy clean channel on the Syn30 is great. Very pedal ready but also has a rich clear tone. What's really good about it is that channel has very high head room. Even my big Gretch baritone doesn't break it up.
Phillip I trust you 100 percent on your choice. But I'm looking to get the G & L tribute. Or the Sire S7 I didn't see either one on your list. What's your opinion?.
Regarding hanging guitars on a drywall – I hang a server w/ 8 HDDs, weighting a bit over 33kg (~73lbs) on a wall mount held by 4 butterfly anchors. I could hang from it and the steel mount would probably bend before it would pull out of the wall, so it's not going anywhere. If your guitar is heavier than that – sure, don't hang it on a drywall…
"my little sister has one!" ????
I cant stand that amp ,tried getting a decent metal tone a few times at guitar center, never any luck , fender mustang or any of their combo amps , a thousand times better imo .
Did Sweetwater pay you the money you asked the question about Phillip?
For guitar hanging I use a piece of 1×6, routed a nice edge on it, painted it white, then mounted it into the studs. Then just it the guitar hangers where i wanted them.
Hi Phil, have you ever done a video showing the pros and cons of various amp syms or yuor set of rules to evaluate them and determine which ones to use when and why? That would help for all of us that don't have the time and money to explore numerous options. I know I am getting older and carrying around my amps is just getting old.
my favorite practice amp of all time is the modestly priced VOX Cambridge 50. highly recommend for the channel. you da man, Phil.
