1 Song, 5 Units, which is the most authentic? #helix #kemper #headrushfx #positivegrid

This video summarises the profiler tone comparison for ‘My Last Serenade’ by Killswitch Engage.

The tone is based on:

Mesa Dual Rectifier Modern channel through a 4×12 Celestion Vintage 30 cab, tightened with a Tube Screamer, and cleaned with a fast-response noise gate.

All settings aim to match this original studio configuration.

Throughout testing, the biggest challenges were:

– Matching noise gate thresholds and release times across units
– EQ response variations (especially mid scoop accuracy)
– The quality and realism of stock cab simulations
– Balancing output levels and amp gain structure consistently

Reference Tone Settings:

Amp Mesa Dual Rectifier (Modern Channel)
Cab 4×12 Celestion Vintage 30 (Closed Back)
Mic SM57 on-axis
OD Pedal Tube Screamer / TS808 (Drive 0, Tone 5.5, Level 8.5–9)

  • This is not a judgement on the capacity for any of these units to be great. I've used them all in different places for different purposes, and with a little editing, they all sound superb, and make it difficult to choose between them.

This is merely looking at what their appeal may be to beginner users.
