  • I'd love to see those other videos (pedals). I have to deal with preamps with the amps we use at our blues jam. Pedal would apply in a similar way. I struggle with this topic. I'm getting better but particular the single coil Strats are hard to get the right sound.

  • Love this! Great focused info explained well. Thank you for doing this and big yes to including pedals.

  • I like how you put pick in your mouth so you can talk with your hands….:). Good info. enjoyed it.

  • This explains a lot! And gives me the reasons for things that I experienced that was confusing, but now I feel as though I kind of know why! TKS!!!

  • Yes it would be great if you can do another vid with pedals in front of the amp. Thanks!

  • Heard the question a million times never got the right answer until now, That and the concept of compression, overdrive and clean. I have seen comments and gotten the answer that people were getting their tone right from the amp they have. You called it compression some call it clipping, But the term compression just seems more definitive of what is actually happening rather then clipping off the top of the peak of the wave. That just tells you what the graph looks like! 100% appreciate the beautiful explanation and I now know why I can't get a clean sound cranking the hell out of everything!

  • i use a Marshall 50 watts i use my guitar volume a lot, i have many effects on my amp, i also can hook a 4X12 cabinet up to it for concert stage stuff. Dylan sounds good. maybe for people that haven't been playing a long time. I've owned many amps over the years, some shitty, but Blackstar and Marshalls seem to be the best amps out there. No matter if it's Solid state or Tube. I'm a Classic Hard rock female guitar player. I'll check out your future video's too. Keep Rockin it. I'm planning on making my own video's one playing talking. I'm 60 years old, i've been playing since i was 13 years old. I own Jackson guitars & Les Paul guitar, I'm more a Les Paul Person, Love my Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, Gotta get the Led Out ????

  • This is fantastic. I’ve learned exactly what I need right now with a new amp and multiple guitars.

  • This explains why my low output pickups sound better than others into my home kinda small wattage amps. I feel the sound is better when you can open up the guitar and the amp more.

  • I like to have my guitar volume at about 7 or 8 so I can go up or down a bit . Then set edge of breakup on amp. Vol down a bit and it cleans up, up to max and it gets gnarly. Attack will vary too.

  • Guitars are like cars no one guitar does everything as no one pickup does everything . I have five electrics and two acoustics and they
all have their own sound . I have five amps from 10W to 60W and they all have their own sound . And they all adjust different , but
understanding how they work takes a lot of the guesswork out of getting the sound you want , even with pedals . Great video Bless ya.

  • Just twiddle the knobs till it sounds good. what else do you need to know? do the same with your effects. Sounds cool. Now you're ready. Tips for beginners: 5 is the maximum number of pedals you need. Play all the time don't worry about the latest and best thing out there. Your favor rate piano player isn't hoarding gear, is he? Just play it's all in your hands.

  • Thanks for the video but if you were to show the knobs you are turning like gain or Threshold or Volume or how to use a clean up on a set up that would help too. I found the best way to make any amp sound better was easy…..change your strings, stop playing a dead horse!

  • My amp settings change every gig because on guitar ???? I'm playing Airplanes Full flights takeoff landing on guitar Race cars old cars. Having a big headroom is a great plus if your revving engines & taking off as loud as a plane & racecar is. I don't play typical guitar playing at all. Having a head with many effects & pedals has helped me greatly. Big headroom was a must for me to play the Airshow gig. Guitar sounds like airplane doing aerobatics.

  • When you’re adjusting the amp, are adjusting the volume or the gain? I assume you’re using the overdrive channel.

  • Thank you, at 72 I am grateful for this info! So many amps over the years, only to discover how many great amps I've sold ignorantly not understanding how to use them!

  • Its such a shame when various words are borrowed from the lexicon and applied to other things they weren't really meant for. In audio electronics its not only deceiving its misleading especially when the use is inconsistent. So always start with a glossary of terms. {e.g. Presence, treble, bass, mid-range, distortion, limiting, compression, effect(s), affect(s), Watts, sine power, music power, gain, volume, drive, impedance, reflex, treble boost, phasing, clean, grunge, decibels in power, decibels in voltage differences etc. The list is almost endless. If we don't decide before we start then we have no defined language to work with. For example, strictly speaking amplification can be described as a form of distortion since the output wave is not identical to the input wave. However, we would accept that larger without any other changes is pure amplification. Once the wave-shape is changed then you have distortion. Therefore compression ought not to include distortion as it really is a sort of automatic volume control that seems to keep the output sound level EVEN when the input is changeable. The individual strings of a guitar, the keys on a piano etc deliver different intensities. Compression will smooth this out. However if the amplifier folds back to avoid being driven into saturation we would call that Limiting. When valve rectifiers were used that sort of foldback was intrinsic to the design.

  • I'm glad at the 3:30 mark you mentioned this was for beginners. I feel your channel is basically information for beginners, which is nice of you. Thanks for helping out the people who are just starting off this year. I've been doing guitar related topics for decades so I can't say I've ever heard you say anything that wasn't common knowledge for the novice and above, but its nice sometimes to hear you do your thing. I think you could get more beginner traffic if you renamed your channel "Dylan talks tone for beginners" Peace and love bro!
