  • Your videos are just so good JP!

I learn and incorporate more techniques into my templates from your videos than years of others.

I think it’s because you can explain why something works (little details like SSL sharing a chip from DBX, etc.) and then you talk about your failed experiments.

I’m using my plugins better, getting better tones, etc.

    Awesome!

  • Awesome vid! I'm mainly interested in the gear and/or settings the different bassists use for the recording of albums and some live performances. Do you think Jason didn't use the Sansamps in recordings? Just a preamp for the lives?

  • On that Randy Staub bass video You Had different settings.

Are those here like updated or it's a different sound?

Also, You didn't cut FQ's like You did here at the end of bass boombox chain. It's also updated thing?

  • Great video!

So You cut everything aboce 269,2 Hz, right? So basically then this boombox track is sub + this sub one octave lower, right? So You don't need sub then ; )

BTW: During last live youtube steram, CHRIS BASEFORD said that He is watching Your videos ; ) Beside You and me, He also loves Randy Staub as much as we do 😀

  • @J.P.

Could you please upload the bass DI so we can work on our own mixing. High quality spector DIs are hard to come by.

  • Great video, the bass sound in this album is pretty much the pinnacle for E standard metal and everything down to C honestly.

  • Ох, поистине бородатая шутка, но все же: а когда будет видео про звук Джейсона Ньюстейда на альбоме И Правосудие Для Всех?)

  • That's crazy so the core sound is the Trace Eillot GP11 and the meat of the tone is coming from a Marshall 4 X 12, no Bass cab in sight?

  • That Amek is insane! It’s so insanely versatile once you figure it out. It’s my mix comp, amazing on drums, so good on low end how you can just make it sit. I made a preset that is my SSL G comp replacement. ????

    Amazing vid, as always! Thanks!

  • Sounds nearly identical to the original. Great job matching the tone!! I like the boombox track idea. I bus my bass tracks to an aux with a 1073 with 35 Hz cranked completely up, and then it's followed by the space modulator plugin from Valhalla, set to the symphonic preset. so essentially 2 Andy Wallace, techniques combined on 1 Aux. I blend that into the original sound for the amount of sub and width that I'm looking for.

  • 16:07 was it your channel or another where they showed to get a lot of low end on a bass, you take a neve style preamp and crank the low filter at the lowest frequency then run that into an ssl channel strip using just the compressor

18:16 it almost sounds like Jason holds the pick at a slight angle to get somewhat of a pick scrape with each string hit

  • Glad you tried the Amek Mastering Comp, it s a wonderfull compressor ! Try the peak part of the compressor whenever you need to round transient, it works really great for that also. As I told you there is a learning curve with this one.
    Great video as always!

  • Spector ns2 has quite distinctive sound. Not that I know anything about bass guitars, but that’s one thing that has been quaranteed to sound good in a mix. Nice video, gave me ideas to try. Thank you!!

  • The reference tone of bass tones, well done man. Bassists approved. Two points I'd like to mention. 1. Funny how they still sounds like them despite all the different instrument used on Unforgiven 2. Is the subsynth channel a replica of what Bob described as the sample bass? Because still can't get what they mean by sample bass for a record like that.

  • I immediatly went to try it and even though I have a musicman style bass I feel like the soul of the sound is pretty much there just with the BA250 cab + DI and the SVTVR. It sounds great and meaty, I LOVE IT.

  • JP, thank you so much for these videos.
I’m hearing a grind that the Spector has that adds a flavor essential to this tone. Also hearing it on Alice In Chains tracks too. Do you agree?
Do you think it’s the EMGs or the instrument as a whole?

  • So glad you did bass (I'm a bass player of course) I was wondering if maybe you could do AJFA bass at some point too?
