  • Just asking for anyone that uses a MXR-10 band. How durable is the actually pedal I used it in my travel board and the pegs broke and the pedal short circuited on me only had for 3 months. Has anyone else had issues with durability with the MXR 10 band eq.

  • I had one of the black 6 band MXRs and one of the black 10 bands as well and they were both awesome. The silver 10 band I owned was kinda garbage. Not sure if they’re the same circuit, but I could not get that thing to sound good at all. Maybe I had a defective pedal. Either way, I’d definitely grab that black six band EQ again.

  • I use a quartermaster, and my first loop(my clean sound)is a mini dynacomp->6 band eq->chorus.

    I can confirm it's a great sound. I use the EQ to kill mids because I boost them on my amp for gain sounds and it really helps bring back the sparkle for cleans.

  • I'd like to reiterate and strongly endorse the idea that EVERY player should have the 10-band and Dyna-Comp combo, they do great things for every style you could play, and are completely intuitive.

    The MXR 10-band is also extremely good in a loop for shaping high gain tones, and adds negligable noise.

    Back in the day when I worked music retail and could get away with it, I used to throw in GE-7s into "kits" for begginers, and I'd tell them how crucial an intuitive, manual EQ was, and that once they got into intermediate playing, they should upgrade to the MXR.

    And my favorite thing for several years was slapping BBE riders in the face with a Dyna-Comp. 😀

    I will leave you with this – a dyna-comp out front, a multivoice chorus ala TC Elec THEN into a 10-band set for scooped mids, boosted bass and VERY boosted 8K and 16K+ highs is 7/8ths of the classic Metallica clean tone, and is the ONLY way to even approach that tone live that I have found, without having an actual JC-120 onstage.

  • Whats your take on dyna comp vs CS-3? Wouldnt the tone control on the CS-3 give you the same result as the EQ?

  • There are other effects in there. Sounds like some kind of slapback echo or reverb and some kind of modulation pedal too.
