The muti-Grammy winning country guitar hero is going sans pedalboard this time around as he cranks up on stages across the country.

Down Under’s number one country guitar export—and November 2024 Premier Guitar cover model—Keith Urban rolled into Cincinnati’s Riverbend Music Center last month, so John Bohlinger and the Rig Rundown team drove up to meet him. Urban travels with a friendly crew of vintage guitars, so there was much to see and play. In fact, so much that they ran out of time after getting through the axes! Later, Bohli and Co. met up with Urban tech Chris Miller to wrap their heads around the rest of the straightforward pedal-free rig he’s rockin’ this summer.

Last year, Urban released High, his 12th studio record, so you’ll be sure to catch those tunes and more in his extensive jam-friendly sets. Here’s a look at what Keith is bringing with him to stages across the U.S., including a prototype signature PRS to vintage Gibsons and a pair of heavy-lifting Marshalls.

  • It's cool that Keith is still employing the same tech all these years later. Seems like a solid gig, happy for him.

  • Saw keith play at Brisbane last night this guy can sing play all his fills and solos at the same time. He's the real deal almighty guitarist and world class musician. Played the PRS, black strat and of course his trusty telly, all sounded phenomenal but the PRS by far was the outstanding guitar of the night awesome rock sound, if you get the chance go see this show Keith doesn't hold back vocally or with his playing, he's the real deal.

  • Cool to see the JMP-1 still featuring in these rigs. That and the Triaxis are my 2 favourite all-tube midi preamps.

  • I was stunned with the PRS Proto, love the Novo… but then he pulls out a '52 LesPaul? I suppose if you can afford security for your instruments. ????Anyone who's had gear nicked from a dive bar load out knows exactly what I mean. ☮❤????

  • Man, the things you get exposed to on these rundown episodes. Honestly, never knew anything about Keith I’m a metal head mostly but he really seems like a cool, approachable dude that just loves to play and loves the gear that makes it happen.
This was great and I’ll check him out! ????????

  • I played in a touring country band with a singer/guitar player who used a parts-caster Tele, a Peavey Bandit and a Boss compressor pedal. He had the best tone I've ever heard……next to mine, of course. I used a Peavey Classic 20, no gain pedal and only a rack-mount tuner in line. We'd play shows where we were the opening act for a big artist and we'd get laughed at because we'd come strolling in with a guitar case in one hand and our tiny amps in the other. The laptop player for Toby Keith asked me if my amp made toast! Lol! He was a really cool dude and so was Toby Keith, who was a true gentleman – may he rest in peace! A truly sad, sad day.

  • The SD-1 is so underrated. I used to use two also as pictured in Keith's pedalboard, one for the base tone and add the second one for more gain. Worked out great, until they and my other gear burned up with my house. Now I use a Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, which my band helped me buy after the fire.

  • The PRS has Cow Patty Pickups which is perfect for playing tunes like Welcome To The Barnyard and It’s So Greasy
