A couple things that might help if you're brand new:
1. Start with just the 1st exercise & hang out there for a bit. Don't feel like you have to rush through these. They'll take time to master, and that's totally normal. These exercises cover a wide range of beginners, but if you're brand spankin' new, just work on getting that first one clean before moving on to the others.
2. If you're having a hard time getting a good stretch to reach those higher frets, you might need to make some small tweaks to your hand & thumb position. This video should help you:

I paused my music for this and it was worth it.
You have to be born to play guitar. Most people will never be able to play no matter how much they practice. To be able to fret notes and pick strings so cleanly with so much control and accuracy is physically impossible. Nobody knows why some people are able to play instruments they just can and its not fair
My thumb to pinkie reach is 6 inches max 5 with pointer to pinkie, while my middle finger is 2 inches long from knuckle to tip. I'm at a very clear disadvantage, but i'm willing to learn.
Which one would you choose?
Iconic.
Nice one.
????????????????
an important thing id like to add is KEEP YOUR FINGERS LOW. it’s a horrible habit to try and break if you learn lifting your fingers too high up when moving frets
Masterpiece.
This deserves way more views.
Scales on a piano are movable also. The movement is just in octaves rather than frets. With a guitar, in standard tuning, starting at low E, the strings increase in perfect 4ths, i.e.the next string is A, which is the perfect fourth tone above E. A perfect 4th to any note is two full steps plus a half step above that note. Next is D, a perfect 4th above A, until you get to the G to B transition, which is only a major 3rd interval. Then back to a perfect 4th up to E. The guitar uses frets to seperate half steps, or semi-tones. The piano keys use white and black keys, with a missing black key where natural half steps occur, B-C and E-F.
Every book, teacher, or video I have ever seen does this and says this.
Hey how hard do you press on the string?
So much effort in this video.???? Great work sir. Have my electric guitar for 15 years now ,but havent played much in last 10 years. Felt like this video can be a great starting tutorial
Damn, I don't know if its video edit or your fender's neck looks like cheese, <3 wow!! It would HEL Lot fun playing that sweetheart .
nangin na neda thota
#1. The picky is not touching the cord with Tip of the finger. Do as I say not as I do. This is why struggle, shouldn’t it just be fun without the rules that even the teacher doesnt follow?
How much time everyday should I practice each exercise?
WOW, THANKS
Legendary.
Bravo!
This should be in history books.
Thank you for this video. Most lessons online jump into cords or even songs but this is a better use of my limited practice time to actually get better. I can play happy birthday for like 15 years but still can’t play guitar.
This!
My attention span actually survived this one.
Drop a like if you agree.
How much will it take to learn if I practice everyday?
If this is beginner then m a bot
Thank you man your video helped so much all these other videos didn’t work
since my little baby fingers never touched a guitar before im kind of struggling, but dont worry im planning to get strong manly fingers asap
For a beginner do you recommend a pick?
Completely lost me on the open scale c part ????
For the beginner i think you can just stick to the chords???? and strums if your just wanna enjoy playing your favorite songs and if your not on the finger style..and not to career or be a master guitarist..just my opinion????
My pinky finger cant even reach the 4th fret of 3rd string in the 1st exercise
Why is this video so loud ????
When I was a kid in the 12th grade, I saw anothet kid playing beautiful and iconic piece this with a bunch of girls around him. I told myself I will never be able to play like him. So I bought a fender and after 5 years of hard practice I was right. And sold the fender.
Por que o professor não optou pela palhetada alternada neste vídeo?
How long a day should I do this? And is this just a warm up exercise? When do I know I’m ready for part two?
0:39 absolutely sent me haha
I like it
I noticed at 1:29 and at 1:52, when at the top strings, the fingers touch the string below…is it important to NOT touch other strings when doing this exercise or not ?
I am after two weeks of practicing it every day – it's incredible how much comfortable I am with playing now
I'll keep going
