It's a lot lighter than the mg50dfx which weighs 36lbs, the 50fx weighs around 21lbs. Marshalls MG series are great amps, solid state or not, the Frequency Dependent Damping feature works well, it does indeed "tube" things up. If i could give one piece of advice, for all amps not just Marshalls MG series, fit castor wheels to the bottom of the amp, makes life a lot easier…
What's the stock speaker?
Its a great amp i got mine yesterday ,I love it…Mine has a 12 inch Celestion speaker fitted in it…
I just repaired a 2003 version. Re-soldered a previously worked on resistor, loose cap, broken input that has the main ground behind it, cleaned all pots and jacks, scrubbed the old flux and loads of dust off the boards, replaced the noisy fan, and scrubbed the microprocessor leads twice with DeOxit and a flux brush. Also cleaned the faceplate and Tolex. Not really worth the time but I’m retired and my son in law bought it when he was a teen!
Affordable gear like the MG series usually has an undeserved bad reputation because it's mostly bought by beginners (and lots of them are still kids) who don't really know what they want, what they need, what the gear is supposed to do and what not, and how to properly use it.
I mean… no one trashes a Fender Twin because it's nearly impossible to get a metal tone out of it without external gear or because sometimes the tubes fail.
Good job on the review man it sounds great !!!! I’ve got an origin 50 too and u could AB both amps and use the MG for the clean sound and the origin for tube crunch ???? I think the MG clean sound is where this amp shines
Nice video. Thank you for not using a Stratocaster. I need to try this amp in person!
Call me crazy but I’ve tried all the new expensive tube DSL series Marshall’s and they all get fizzy in the gain channels and break up.
I thought I was crazy and tried multiple at different guitar centers and they all do that, BUT the MG that supposedly everyone hates so much sounds a LOT better and is so much cheaper.
Just came across your Video was looking at clips for the old Marshall 5210's. Clicked on yours thinking it was a 5210 and it obviously wasn't, so ok lets listen to it. Man i was blown away how good it sounds no fizzyness and that wierd decay you get in the end off the notes. Its got great tone plenty of gain for what i need , do you still use it ? Hows it stood the test if time to you gig with it? Cheers
A hint of a plexi sound in the od1 channel there which is selling it to me.
I'm not a fan of tube amps personally. A bit old fashioned for my liking and can be more expensive for what? You're not going to tell the difference when playing in a band that much.
I think Ty Tabor of kings-X kills that argument about Solid State amps having inferior tone. I love that dudes tone.Hard to believe it's solid state.
I own 3 marshall amps i love Marshall…it is an icon…great review
Great video, thank you for posting
Really like this- needed a bit of tuition – I am a classical guitarist and am putting a high quality electro classical guitar through it – works very well. I already have an acoustic amp but wanted all these effects and sound heavy with overdrive etc
I recently bought one secondhand, and I have to say it sounds amazing. Best amp I've owned (haven't owned a tube amp yet). New it's around €280 and I was lucky to get it for €160 in really good shape. Love the fx aswell, especially the reverb, vibe, reverse delay and octave. I play it at home at the lowest volume. To me it really sounds like a €400 amp at least. Love it!
I just bought one and im enjoying it, well for the most part cause I do find that there is more "hissing" or white noise then i like to hear. Im told thats to be expected but it seems more then whats ok. Maybe most amps are like this? I read that the Boss Katana has a noise cancelation feature that removes that and that sounds appealing but U rather not have to deal with all the digital features. I like the lay out of the controls on the Marshall and the straight forwardness of use. But boy do people ever have a hate on for this amp online.
Great review. Great playing and demos. Easy sub thanks Jorge
hi, i was still use the old mg50dfx and avt50 for 14yrs.that was a great amp.love the marshall.
Personally I don't like the channel 2 overdrive tones on these Marshall MG series but the clean channel takes drive pedals really well. You put any good Marshall-in-a-box type distortion or OD pedal in front of these and they sound great.
I was between boss mkii and marshall 50gfx, in the end I chosed the marshall.Did I made a big mistake?
Thank you so much for taking the time to make and post this awesome video on Marshall MG50GFX ♫ I love the sound for sure♪♫♪
On stage as alternative to miking amp can you use the speaker out to run direct into stage box/ mixer/ di . If so can use guitar cable ?
I like when the guitarists do a review playing some simple rock or metal stuff, because, let's be honest, majority of us that might buy this amp are playing simple riffs and chords in our bedroom for fun aswell.
Very cool thanks! Needed to show off the effects this amp has too!
Great demo man, because I'm meeting a dude to buy this Amp tomorrow.
Sub to your channel, see what else you have, as im always looking to learn new things, and like many players, searching for my tone ????????????
Fantastic review, sounds great. Thank you sir! I just picked up one of these with that Stompware pedal tonight for a great deal. Very excited for it!
● I Like that MARSHALL. And I Really Like that "Les Paul"(Darkish RAW Color).????☆????
Since i pressed it, it turned red and it is always like that, how do I make it work?
How does the save button work?
Valve amps have a sweet spot that usually requires turning them very loud to get there. I saw a Led Zep cover band recently and the guitarist had a very nice JTM 45 and 4×12 cab but it sounded horrible because the club was too small to get the amp cooking without deafening everybody. Conversely I saw a band where the guitarist was using a small Marshall combo that sounded very good. I went to have a closer look assuming it was going to be a DSL or something but it turned out to be a …MG 30.
Will Sqoe LP 500 sound good with this amp??
Were you using a noise gate??
Why so much hate for the mg amps ?.sure that have plastic jacks but other then that I love them
Some one who knows to get that Slash tone from this amp? What setting?
Hi there…….Is there a headphone jack on that amp……Thanks
this amp sucks I hate mine
He's holding the amp on his lap like it is a cat or a dog.
Thanks for your review! I got a katana 50 mkii, for the power amp input, that i using with my multieffect zoom g6. But…i ' m thinking to get the marshal that has send return and se 4 cable mod to connect the zoom. Did you ever use it with a multieffect? Could be a good choise? Thanks in advance!
I really like that you’re honest and said that a solid-state amp really can’t replace a good tube amp and I agree. I’m choosing between a Marshall tube amp or Blackstar tube amp?
but yeah that little Marshall does sound good it’s good enough for practice for anyone, so yeah it’s pretty cool and also I like that you go to church that’s cool.!
I had the 30W version and found the OD1/OD2 channels largely unusable for gigging on a small bar where it was miked. The overall output of OD/OD2 was much quieter than Clean/Crunch channel. Does the 50W have this issue?
Just subscribed, such a good and informative video!
I like that it has a sealed back. I want the sealed 12" sound. I wonder what this would sound like with my 2 tubed Demonizer up front. I don't believe they make them any more. It's a double preamp driver that used 2 12AX or AY7 with one channel running into the next, and 2 tone controls for each. With my old,, small Marshall Solid State, it sounded good when I ran a BOSS HM-2 in the input with the Tone set, the distortion not set, and the level all the way up. I got this info from an Aussie in the store, and he was right. It was very sensitive to the touch, and would throw off harmonics and sustain for ages. I want a pratice amp; I have a B-52 half-stack with triple rectifiers. I don't use it at night because I don't want to blow the neighbors out of their places. I don't like open backed cabs for guitar, I use ports for my bass cabs.
These are the new version of the MG series. Most people still refer to the older models.
Can we use the CODE50 footswitch?
Solid state can sound as good as tube.. it wont sound the same as tube but it can sound as good. What I mean is you won’t get sag or the same compression but u can work with pedals to recreate that. Either way if you can live without that the actual tone itself can be just as killer. Theres nothing wrong with solid state and i personally like how much more versatile they are and trouble free. I recommend a speaker upgrade bc thats the most important part of any amp and these come w cheaper speakers like the origin combos. When u eq the amp according to its needs and solid states do require different eq settings with a good speaker this could easily become a main gigging amp. Personally I’d save precious tube amps for studio recordings where the idiosyncrasies of the amp matters more. In a gig setting no one is going to care about your tone but you. And even then you can get killer results with solid states. They are arguably the best pedal platforms when you hit them through the clean channel with an always on pedal and two or three more gain stages.
Is it MG30FX30w 1/10 ??
