You could throw a dart at a board of all the world’s music genres, and chances are fair that you’d hit a sound that Melbourne band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have explored. King Gizz started life as a bluesy garage-rock outfit, but over the past 14 years, they’ve leapt into metal, jazz, folk, electronic, and even microtonal music. They’ve spread their adventures over 26 LPs—five of them released in 2022 alone.
On tour this summer in support of their latest, Flight b741, the band stopped at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater, where Premier Guitar’s Chris Kies caught up with guitarists Joey Walker and Stu Mackenzie for a look at how they navigate the Gizzverse onstage. Here’s a preview of some of the goods, but tune into the full Rundown to catch all the details—including Mackenzie’s famed Flying Microtonal Banana, the namesake of their 2017 album.

Anyone know what album Stu's talking about around 24:00?
looks like joey needed to piss while talking about the hiwatts. can't unsee it
saw joey and stu at billy strings in melbourne but didnt wanna bother them. they were havin a good beer and watching the show. cool none the less
1:47 that picture of himself on his guitar ????????????????
Rubs chin and leans forward. Smiles, then leans back and makes a serious face.
Let's see Ambrose's gear.
37:17 EQD has got to release this!!!
New drinking game. A shot every time Joey says 'like'. No don't, you'll die.
Wild that Stu gets that awesome of a high gain sound from just a Fender HRD. Sounds awesome.
being inspired by turkish music but not having turkey in your european tour is extremely rude ????????????
Love these guys. Amazing music. Been listening to them since just before the pandemic. They have gotten huge since then, might be hope for the music scene yet. There's nothing like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Their fan base is crazy diverse, from young people to old heads.
Of course he is using a stock fender amp for metal tones. Sounds sick.
that yellow guitar is so fun looking it makes me wanna spend money on instruments i dont need…..
that micro tonal would be the best for arabic scales
Ok so Stu Holy Xplorer is next greenie? :] let the hunt begin…
Best band in the world. Joey and Stu are just awesome.
"Yeah we have a couple of microtonal records now" What an incredibly bizarre thing for a modern rock band to be able to say.

Shorts Crocs and Darkthrone goes hard.
In USA you don't want to go bare foot too often, you may pick up something that will kill you. Great Band that I have followed since they hit USA.
This is definitely the Best Rig Run Down Premier Guitar has ever done. These guys were so honest and forthright in this video. They should be Way Huger than they are. A fucking shame they get Zero radio play in USA.
that clock is the most important there
This was aired 4 months ago in the end of 2024, and Joey walker is still rocking Crocs flops. Got to admire the man's integrity.
That dudes arms match his shirt.
Darkthrone ????
I miss Stu's 12 string!
