Geddy's bass always sounds awesome. But I have a special admiration for that precision tone on the first album. The bass is full, harmonically rich, and beautifully saturated to my ears.
I love his flamenco style. If I could play bass 1/100th as well as he can, I'd be an awesome bass player! Haven't picked up one since university.
That Wal sound was the peak for me when it came to his playing and tone
Treble to much
Geddy is so good that he do defends the use of Pick in bass, but he doesn't need the pick though:
"You can do like me, that I use the edge of my nail. Sometimes when you try to emulate the style of the pick…I mean, the advantage of the pick is that you can go upground and downgrade, but I don't need it, I use my nail"
The brief spell with the Steinberger obviously not worth a mention…however his rasgueado – like strumming style playing as heard in 'Animate' and many songs since then should be included.
Didn't he play a Steinberger for a while?
Geddy Le(s Claypool)e
Keyboard cracked me up. He’s got quite a few more evolutions in between 1974 and 2017 with much sweeter licks.
What’s happened with the WAL bass?
Loved his bass sound on the Wal era well before I knew how goddamn expensive they were. Damn you Blood Sugar Sex Magik and 80s Rush making the best bass tone so out of reach!
No steinberger? Steinberger! Grace def had some steinberger on it. And good Cosmos I want a wal. That unique pop on the high strings. Aaàaaaaãæ!!!!
Blah blah blah! ????
Geddy played roundabout with 1 finger
you haven’t done geddy lee bass tone yet
part 1 of asking for either geddy lees bass tone or refused tone
(key word, part, i’ll miss a few days tbh)
Don't forget the headless bass on Grace Under Pressure Tour!
Not even close
WAIT GEDDY LEE DID ROUNDABOUT?!
Loooove it. ❤
Where is the Steinberger?
I loved his Rickenbacker tone on songs like Fly by Night and By-tor. So crunchy sounding
Still remember as a kid my uncle asking me if I knew that Rush only has 3 members. And mind blown. Even as a kid.
Cmon man, you couldnt borrow someone's Steinberger? thats a big gap missing in this evolution
The Wal, the keyboards, the 80s, and the Davy Crockett were all the best Geddy
Thank you, Danny!
I hear a Rickenbacker and immediately think of Lemmy.
Bro skipped 2112 ????
I love rush so much
YEAH, YEAH, DANNY… try taking up Flamenco and playing behs at the same time. Let's see 'ow finger 'tnails cope wid' 'dat!
Geddy joins YES! ???? love it
Roundabout sounds great on bass
Tom Sawyer was reccorded with a Rickenbacker too….. no?
Buy a Steinberg and redo it lol
As a man who educated us on how to capture so many tones, how could you miss the ball so hard on this one??
Geddy is the reason i bought a behs…
Picked up a bass about a year ago. I thought about how much fun it would be to learn to play. In about ten seconds my fingertips disabused me of this notion. Sticking to the drums.
Tom sawyer was also a ricky in studio
You need a lot more than 30 seconds
No steinberger stick bass?
I wish i could play a rickenbacker or a wal (I know that's the chowney). It's cool that he basically landed on the jazz bass tho
Phil Lynott, please
Missing the steinberger

This was great, and then you ruined it at the last second by including Yes (eeeewwwwww).
When did Geddy ever play a p bass on their first album?? I’ve never heard of it and it’s not in the research lol. And he plays a different lick entirely in working man
