Why does everybody talk crap about guys that use a pick to play bass but all the best bass players use a pick or at least the most creative ones that people actually have heard before
Justin Chancellor is my spirit animal.
Base ass tuning,??? (No pun intended). Guitarist tryna get this correct to teach my dad.,…
Just need a tiny bit more growl
Nothing like the sound of a wal
What's with the pussy with the gloves
I really enjoy it, but it sounds very different to the studio version I wonder if he uses the rat in the studio
Having a strong pick attack with an angled pick or picking slightly diagonally towards the bridge sounds like it's a small detail, but it makes SUCH a big difference. Couple that with a thick pick or a hard one and you get some scraping in the sound that gives it a very tight and trebly bite
I remember the moment in time I heard this for the first time!
If you dont angle the pick youre not going to be playing very fast
why does the nerd always have a glove on ?
Justin Chancellor = awesome bassist!
Tears for fears did it better
Shout, interlude
Great band to see live when tripping balls. Not even a huge fan of their music but goddamn those visuals are tiiiight. I’ve seen them twice and they put on a pretty good performance.
A rare footage of 2 wall basses in the same room

Every time I come across your shorts, I wish I played bass lol
definitely through an amp
Try a high pass filter stomp box.
Like the Sound
Justin is entrancing to watch live. Like a bass playing Gollum.
I remember counting that riff out in alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8… until I saw a transcript that just had it as straight 3/4 LOL.
It’s definitely not chorus, if it has any at all it’s much much lower in the mix. Not a passive bass either, if I had to bet, active bass and with a top end boost.
Saw them close with this at Madison Square Garden last week ????????
Fuck yeah, one of my favorites!!
Isn't it a 4 note chromatic run instead of a 3 note like Ian is playing?
I love that riff.
No
????????????
I hate that bass riff… I hate everything about it… The midrange overdrive with an echo, the line itself… This is not bass… Its ????
I cant stand his sound. I dont like these wal basses. Theyre so twangy and irritating to my ears. On top of it the pick. Ew. I remember when geddy lee switch to the wal in the 80s. Awful. His fender jazz basses are wayyyyy better.
30,000 Dollars of bass between those 2 Wal Bases.
Love Justin Chancellor
When he angled the pick it was an instant, “that’s the sound”. Lol
Both just chilling with 2 2thousand pound basses
