Watch some of that old 70's footage. His walking bass lines while he sings, jumps around, hands doing his trademark sign, arm punching the air (something they all did constantly. Is pretty too. Don't give a damn if he's the best. He entertained that inspired countless stars now. With all that going on, he does his thing great.
He is a good bassist. Listen to the early albums – he played a lot of interesting stuff and is a much more talented player than he gets credit for. By no means a technical wizard but a good bassist

Knowing what I know now, KISS’s guitar and bass parts always seemed pretty simple. Probably because Gene and Paul had to focus on singing also. Only guy I know off the top of my head that can sing and shred is your old pal Dave Mustaine
