As mostly a rock and metal player, i have enormous respect for him and country music players like him. Lots of good country drummers, too. I play guitar and drums, haha. Ive also had my guitars in the past get the pickups raised up to add to the overall sound of the guitar????????. If you can't afford a new guitar or new pickups, raise em up and see if that works. Experiment around and dont let people tell what you are doing is the "wrong way." That's how you get your sound!
