Steve Morse “Punches In” a Solo for Coldplay’s “Fix You” | AMS’s Punch In with the Pros Ep. 2

Steve Morse, legendary guitar virtuoso, came through our studio and played a little game that we like to call “Punch In with the Pros”! We had Steve listen to the track “Fix You” by Coldplay, without the guitar solo, and had him fill in some of his famous soaring melodies and improvise a brand-new solo of his own. If this doesn’t fix you, then nothing will.

  • I would buy an album of just Steve experimenting and explaining what he is doing; his playing is still amazing, one of the best guitarists ever

  • Steve Morse is one of my favorite guitarists of all time.
His solos over Haunted, Sometimes I feel like screaming, All the time in the world are simply perfect.

  • John Petrucci must've had a lot of Steve Morse influence in him because his phrasing borrows a lot from Steve lol

  • I know all about the master Steve Morse. I hung out with him some in southern Florida in the early 90’s, but I have no clue who Coldplay is. ????

  • He played with Deep Purple to a half empty local football field in my hometown in Spain (which has less population than people fits in Wembley Stadium) like if he was playing the biggest gig of his life, long out of this world solo parts included. Don Airey was in keyboards, Glover and Gillan had white hair already and they didn't stopped dancing and singing like heaven for nearly 2 hours. It was the first big rock band concert I went in my life and my parents would let me bring my little sister with me. I will NEVER forget it man!!

  • I love Steve Morse but I have tried and failed to like anything from Coldplay since Yellow which was a great song. Very sad sounding in a boring way. Steve is always great.

  • For me, he is simply the best guitarist to ever grace Deep Purple.. 'sometimes I feel like screaming' is by far one of my favourite tracks that he worked on.

  • Omg I love this! Saw Steve with Deep Purple a few years ago, not long after Jon Lord passed away. It pains me that guitar players like this are a dying breed ????

  • I love Steve Morse from the bottom of my heart, this man is amazing and nobody can play so deeply and beatiful like him

  • I still play by anchoring the heel of my hand 'cuz I also favor palm muting. I'm 70, but I know that technique hurts some players.

  • He's spent 50+ years, learning what not to play, as much as what will. Incredible! Thank you, Steve!

  • Many thanks to Steve and the crew at AMS for sharing this wonderful lesson on how he would approach a studio engagement and contribute to a song. Steve freely shares practical knowledge honed from decades of professional experience across an extraordinarily wide spectrum of musical styles and artistic endeavors. True to form, he is inquisitive, thoughtful, and articulate as he expands the creative boundaries others might limit themselves within, all the while respecting the original work. Kudos to you, Steve. You set an example others should aspire towards. Be well.
