  • 1990's – 2000's Slayer shows with a few shots of whiskey in the pit. Some of the best times of my life.

  • If he was to play anything more complicated, most of the material would sound like a mess. He needs to keep it tight for the mix to actually sound like music.

  • Sadly kerry king and slayer mixes went lars AJFA on every album. Its terrible and inaudible really brings the band down a notch for me

  • Simple as slayer basslines are, he still does it while maintaining perfect vocals. I give credit. I can’t do that, even if I was just playing slayer…

  • I don't care if you're not the greatest or most technical. If you fill your role and complete the sound, you're good. Tom accomplishes both.

  • Oftentimes with metal bass it’s less about what’s being played and more about it being played at all. What I mean by this is that as long as the bass is in tune and in time with the rest of the band, its presence being there to fill out the sound and provide a foundation is all that really matters. Tom Araya in Slayer is the perfect example of this.

  • So he can't play the bass, since he ain't really singing either? What excuse is that? After people been trashing other musicians for decades and now defending Tom is just hilarious! But I mean Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Gibbons, Zakk Wylde and so on are all evidence people can do two things at the same time. The problem is that Tom couldn't do one thing, like playing bass on the recordings, because that wasn't him ???????? Or well he played some of it, the rest was Kerry King.

  • Who cares wether he's a great bass player or not I mean… He simply has to follow the fast pace and deliver his insane vocals at their best. And technical bass lines wouldn't fit Slayer's songs anyway.

  • He's not a great bass player. Who gives a shit? It's what he added to the band overall; which is attitude and ass-kickery. He doesn't have to be Jaco, for fucks sake.

  • When you have Dave Lombardo on the kit all you need out of the bass player is a simple follow, not to mention you have Hanneman and King killing the already low and chunky Slayer riffs. That said, Kerry King said he played most of the bass parts in the studio starting in the late 90s, so there must be something going on.
