  • My nylon stringed guitar is a Yamaha. I love her and have put my soul into it but one day I hope for a better guitar. My mandolin is just a grade above poor too.

  • They look and sound great through my headphones but here in Europe you can get a nice Spanish made student guitar from Alhambra, Paco Castillo, Camps etc for the same money. I’d go with one of those over a Chinese guitar though I hear Altamira are decent.

  • Do you have any recommendation on somewhat higher end instruments ? It seems like there is a huge jump in the price of classical guitars..at least here in the US…from $500 to $5000..I was looking for something in between for now..most of the guitars I see in shops are either not good quality or very expensive.

  • Nice review, thanks. Anybody know who builds these for Augustine? Chinese made?
The headstock shape is characteristic of a builder in Europe.

Oh, and regarding the differences in [top] wood: it is said often that cedar is pretty much what you get from 'day one.' Spruce, on the other hand, can take some time to dry out/break-in. Spruce is a bit trickier to gauge the mature sound from but my experience is that it can really open up with amazing projection over time (at least the the guitar I have). Both of these Augustine models have laminate back/sides.

Here is a direct link to the Augustine spec page: https://www.albertaugustine.com/guitars#!
(copy/pasted). Unfortunately, the details aren't too generous — would like to know more specifics.

  • Always a pleasure, Hannah. A great tutorial on how to evaluate a Guitar. Can you post the names of the pieces you played? Thanks.

  • Hannah, os violões do luthier Hauser tem um som fantástico ! O primeiro tem um som mais grave e o segundo mais agudo !
