Telecaster Modification: Four Way Switch I
Okay, so I went ahead and put in a four-way switch myself. But did I do it right?

sounds to me like 1 and 2 are the second position of a modern 3 way wiring, ie both pickups is parallel…
Do it. I'm an idiot and I got through it. I'm going to my own intonation as soon as I get my "Telecaster Handbook" from amazon. And if that dude really is your friend, he won't mind you bugging him.
Yeah, that's exactly it. The 2nd position gives you that old fashion inbetween telecaster sound. The forth sounds a lot like a vintage gibson, to me at least, and goes great with distortion. The funny thing is, I don't use it much. I bought a tele because I like the single coil sound. But it's nice to know I have that humbucker option.
Actually, I didn't know that, so thanks for the tip.
Never mind, I just watched part II…
One way to tell which pickups are being used is to tap them with something metal. The ones that are active will make a loud sound through the amp.
Hope that helps you narrow it down a bit.
