  • Do it. I'm an idiot and I got through it. I'm going to my own intonation as soon as I get my "Telecaster Handbook" from amazon. And if that dude really is your friend, he won't mind you bugging him.

  • Yeah, that's exactly it. The 2nd position gives you that old fashion inbetween telecaster sound. The forth sounds a lot like a vintage gibson, to me at least, and goes great with distortion. The funny thing is, I don't use it much. I bought a tele because I like the single coil sound. But it's nice to know I have that humbucker option.

  • One way to tell which pickups are being used is to tap them with something metal. The ones that are active will make a loud sound through the amp.
    Hope that helps you narrow it down a bit.
