I’ve got a 64 dove. The ABR though odd definitely gives these guitars a distinct sound that records so well and such a great strumming tone. Only people who don’t like these guitars are bluegrass guitarists.

What a gorgeous Dove, incredible sound. I have a Suzuki Dove copy, looks the part and really does sound quite nice, but only being laminate, the copy has nowhere the depth, resonance and projection of a solid wood guitar. I’m wanting to upgrade one day.
Where’d you find the pick guard for that thing? I have a ‘64 dove and the old becalite plastic is shrinking and cracking

Gibson Dove, the guitar of my dreams. I almost bought one but I ended up getting a Gibson Firebird Acoustic. Same maple back and sides, same scale length 25 1/2”. I have the LR Bags VTC pickup. Mine is a 2015 so it still hasn’t “opened up” yet. But it’s getting there. I still want an old Dove…. 60’s, not the 70’s. I’d also like a Hummingbird from that time period. They both came out around the same time. Amazing instruments. Even the new Doves are amazing. I played one, I think a 2018, I could not put it down. Congrats on your acquisition and keep putting these old birds back together. Glad someone appreciates these old gems! Peace!

I've randomly watched a lot of your videos over the past couple years and I just came across this one. I have a Dove I purchased brand new in 2005 and its the best fitting and sounding acoustic I have ever played. I had no idea until your video that the Dove is actually longer and for my big hands is likely the reason its so comfortable for me. I never really got to use it as as my main guitar as intended as it doesn't have a pickup and as you know bar gigs are not ideal for mic'd acoustics. I could bring myself to add a pick up and risk alerting the sound so I left it and used it to write and record. I don't play professionally anymore so the Dove only comes out a few times a year, but I still love its sound, look and feel.
I see this video is 4 years old at the time I am typing this. Do you still have and use this Dove?

This video just popped up. I haven't seen it before now. I love my Gibson acoustic. It has an ordinary bone bridge. Nothing special I'm sure. I have thought for a long time it might be a little brighter if it had a metal bridge. Yours is even a step ahead being able to adjust the saddles. Not common on an acoustic at all. It is beautiful and bright.
Ot has a very unique tone. Kind of sounds electric in a way. You know how great electric guitars sound good evej acoustic, its kike you took that tone and turned up the volume
So many think a name makes wood sound better.

Know what ya mean about having to take a break to complete projects. Having over 300 (302 and counting) guitars myself, I know just the routine maintenance can be a full time job. And I don't have a youtube site to run, so I can only imagine how it is on your end. I must admit though that getting to see/hear/feel the fruits of your labor is worth every second of the time invested. I will never be able to play as well as you do ( can no longer feel my hands due to a really bad spinal cord injury), but at least I can visit your site to hear how they are supposed to sound. It's great seeing someone else that appreciates guitars and amps like you do.
I would suggest a set of 13-56 , when tuning down.
I think, all Doves are 25.5 scale. The Hummingbird is shorter
That's a really neat cosmetic job by your tech – very tidy. I just can't get my head around the tune-o-matic bridge. (Sorry).

Thanks for that Mathew, Don here from Hamilton NZ on my Wife's tablet-SUSAN, In my time Iv'e owned a Hummingbird from the 80s and a much later Cutaway Gibson, both electric acoustic 's but they quite simply couldn't match the output volume ( acoustic) of my Chinese made Acoustic's, how Very interesting
Had Martins,love their sound but hard to play & setup with lower action. Gibson's are easy to play, lower action and hold their values too!
I think it sounds great and I love the look. Nice job having it brought back to life! 🙂
