California metal giants Deftones returned this year with Private Music, their first album in five years. In support of it, they ripped across North America on a string of headline shows and support slots with System of a Down.
We linked with Deftones guitarist Steph Carpenter for a Rig Rundown back in 2013, but a lot has changed since then (and as Carpenter reveals in this new interview, he basically disowns that 2013 rig). Back in August, PG’s Chris Kies caught up with Carpenter again ahead of the band’s gig in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the guitarist gave us an all-access walkthrough of his current road rig.

now these are the rig rundowns I like, unique guitars that aren't just like "yep, here's my tele and here's my Strat"
The guitar tone and note choices are such a massive element that sets Deftones apart, especially when they first started when it comes to the music that was in rotation back then. I'll never forget hearing Be Quiet and Drive for the very first time, everything about it was so unique and caught my attention right away and i HAD to know what band it was. Been a lifelong fan ever since, White Pony being one of the most pivotal albums of my teenage years. Still hits all these years later, thanks for this video fellas it was great????

Steph repping the Helix, hell yeah. I love mine. I see an Uber Ultra in my distant future, but it's not even needed. The Helix is crazy good when you know wtf you're doing. Line 6–send Steph the Stadium and have him do a demo!

My man writes some slamming riffs . Never cared about his skill level on the instrument , he makes sounds I like on the guitar so I listen . Bought Adrenaline the year it came out and been a fan ever since.
