  • I've had two JCM900's. The first was a 100w dual channel with reverb, 4×12 B cab. Previously owned by the band Orcus. Really only got to crank it a few times but it was magnificent when done. Sold it then about 10 years later got the 50w combo. Cranked that one plenty, but once I played a plexi there was no need for the 900 anymore….

  • I get this is a 900 but totally disagree with the bass knob, I’ve run it OFF before on an 800 and a plexi.

  • I have just gotten my hands on a 1990 jcm900 mk3 and I must say this is an insane sleeper amp. It sounds absolutely phenomenal. Whoever said jcm900s sound bad clearly hasnt tried this one or the sl-x

  • “100% bass on a Marshall, always,” wtf, no one does that lol. Maybe specifically for the 900, but try that on a plexi or jtm45 or jmp and it will sound terrible

  • Dunno about the “no bass on a Marshall” thing. I’ve got a Major from 1971, and it has plenty of bass. I in fact used it as a bass amp for a couple years.

  • I bought a JCM900 Combo around 1998. Beautiful amp. Loaned it to someone who didn't wanna give it back. Sold it in the end.

  • My 900 sounded awesome….. when I played it through my oversized Mesa cabinet.

  • My Marshall 1987 clone has massive amounts of bass. Zero to 2 is the most I ever play with. It shows that the 900 circuit is quite a deviation from the original circuits.

  • I have a 1995 5881 jcm 900 4100. I like it at low volume but it literally has no bass response at all. Even after being retube, rebiased and added a mercury choke it still is very anemic sounding. Pretty much unusable at band volumes unless i run a GE-10 eq in the fx loop. And even that is just a bandaid on cancer. It helps but by no means a cure. Idk, maybe i just got a bad one. There are a bunch of BAD marshalls out there. Esp in the jcm 2000 series. Ive played some amazing dsl 2000s but ive played even more terrible ones.

  • You can make any Modern Marshall Tube amp sound like and old Marshall if you know what you are doing .
Proper Speaker/cab choice is the most impotant ingredient.
If you want to change your tone swap your speakers or cab instead of Changing pickups . Speakers make s far larger difference.

  • There’s plenty of bass on Marshall Bass, Super Bass, and JTM’s. Then you need to set the bass at 2-3. lol

  • to make the 900 sound good you just need to put the master volume on 10 and set the gain to taste. that’s it. like all marshalls of this era and below it has to be loud to sound good, and on 10 you can get some plexi sounds going easily. if you want preamp gain instead then you still need it to be loud, but 3 on the master is enough and then set gain to whatever

  • JCM 4100 owner, need presence near 12, treble at 8 for that glassy cut without the harsh.

  • My Marshall JCM 900 from the 90s sounds great thru the slanted 4/12 greenback 25s, my only complaint is no reverb .

  • I have one it’s the one I take to practice and do gigs with it’s the fn best… well no not the best I have a JCM 800 that I refuse to take to practice or small gigs because it’s that special to me. It will be buried next to me someday!

  • Yep, gotta turn the treble off on the 900. It’s the only way to kill that scratchy sound

  • I have a 1991 JCM 900 MK3 and love it. It's a 50 watt with a vintage 30 speaker and I don't put the bass past 11 o'clock or it's too much and the treble and presence need to be higher to cut through. That goes to show how much each amp can vary. Or even two people's ears.

  • You could do a short reel with some of your favourite settings, so we could learn where to start with our JCM900s ❤❤❤

  • I love mine I have the head and a combo.
I don't care how heavy it is I'll break my back before I sell them

  • Totally get what he means by Bass control is only a "cut".. totally a Brit amp! VOX is the same thing – it's a Bass cut.

  • I have one of Jim Marshall’s signed solid state combos from 1972. It’s loud
    And that’s the point

  • Jaimeson Durr! He produced and engineered my bands EP: 'Swamp Child – Our Secret.' Great dude and excellent producer

  • I have the jcm 760 it sounds great . Swapped the tubes out for lightbulbs an it gives a real light tight sound

  • What about Sun? That was a good one that could rival Marshall.

Kuston was another Transistor Amp that was supposedly the loudest ever.

  • An amp that I see getting a lot of love lately… and finally. We all know Eric Valentine made a killer guitar sound with peavey bandits and other cheap gear for QOTSA, and more than a few of the same tone junkies that used to make fun of those now covet those same amps. I've always liked the sound of a 900 in all of their iterations, and especially live with a band or in a mix. You WILL hear the guitar ????

  • My Valvestate is completely different on the bass end. If you whack it up to 10 its going to ruin a mix in no time. I usually leave it at noon when recording, maybe a 4 if it calls for it.

  • it's a fine amp for certain applications. but it's made cheaply. plenty of good cheap amps. the 900 needs to be treated, modded, parts swapped. works well when actual (vintage) quality tone isn't needed.
