  • How come your Wolfgang has a cavity for the bridge? That's kyna odd. All Wolfgangs I've played and seen have the bridges/Floyds flush or decked on the body. Still an awesome guitar, btw.

  • i had one of these from 2012 and had to sell it because the fretboard width felt way to small. i couldnt play it and then go back to my other guitars comfortably. played one of the newer ones and i liked it a lot more! I definitely want one again

  • I have one with a baked maple neck and quilted maple top. It became my #1 guitar the day I bought it. I find it hard to play anything else. I might buy a 2cd one…

  • Once you get use to the shape… if you find in comfortable you won't want to play anything else. Sold quite a number of guitars these past years pickup variations of the Wolfgang instead… pretty much all play anymore and I don't play like Eddie, yea I know some songs and he was the greatest ever IMHO but my style is just different, yet I love the guitars he designed over the years.

  • I watch these Wolfgang Special reviews all the time, because I own one that feels amazing in my hands, but I just don't enjoy playing it, because I feel like the pickups are just weak. Do you get that same impression? I grew up studying and loving Eddie, and I was so happy to get my hands on this guitar, but it just doesn't sound good to my ears.

  • I bought an EVH MIJ Signatiure and a white Special similar to yours. I love the MIJ, but there's definitely something nice about the Special. Mine seems lighter than the MIJ, and the rolled edges on it feel fantastic. Plus the maple fretboard has a great feel to it as well. It's one of my cheapest guitars, and I don't ever expect to sell it.

  • Funny that I came across this as I watched your video of the Jackson RR24 (Alexi) and I'm considering these 2 guitars. I want a down-only Floyd (improves tuning IMO) so I can have a D-Tuna and I'm a 22 fret guy. It puts the neck pickup in the right position for the best tone, and I'm just used to only having 22 frets. Not a problem on the Jackson since there is no neck pickup. I like the look of the RR, but also know it can be awkward to sit and play…and the case is huge due to the shape. Whereas the Wolfgang seems tiny and the case is regular sized. Anyway…just comparing the two…pros and cons…and trying to decide. I'm also an EMG fanboy and I like how easy it is to get pinch harmonics. I'm a big Zakk Wylde fan (playing and tone), but I'm also an EVH fan and I do like passive pickups for cleans and mild breakup tones. I know these Wolfgang pickups are supposed to be harmonically rich, but can you get pinch harmonics all over as easy as you can with the EMG 81? Other than that, I love the neck on the Wolfgang…asymmetrical and unpainted, smaller width and compound radius. I'm also not a fan of the pickup selector switch placement nor tone knobs…so I would think of ditching the tone knob and moving the pickup selector there…then putting a killswitch where the pickup selector used to be. I'm not a big guy, so the Wolf fits me, but I want to make sure it will do what I want. I do mainly play hard rock and metal so I'm sure it will be fine. I appreciate that you own both and can give a knowledgeable comparison between the RR24 and the Wolf Special.

  • I've owned my EVH Special for a year now, and I'm in love with this guitar. I have many more expensive guitars, but man… Amazing guitar.
Also this is probably the only guitar where I found tone knob usable.

  • This was a great review. Thank you for also NOT playing endless VH in the video. So refreshing.

  • I have the surf green model. You are bang on regarding the neck. It has become my fav neck to play.

  • Just adjust the small Allen screw on the dtuna and you'll never have to touch the fine tuners again to get in tune.

  • Your title hit it on the head “most versatile” cause that it is… I use a fender Kurt cobain jaguar cuz it’s versatile I play fusion jazz rock stoner vibe stuff. I hate when they use terms like “the greatest” ever. This guitar has that same versatility probably more versatile so Im definitely going to give it a go. Thx!

  • I've noticed on the ESP LTD MH 1000 guitars they have a cutout at the d tune on the floyd rose so I guess you could bend up as well????????

  • I bought the same guitar about a year ago. I added a Killswitch to it. It is the most versatile instrument I own outside of my HSS American ultra Stratocaster.

  • I had the same experience. Went into my local music store to have a look around. There was a used Special for 50% off… so the price caught my eye. But then when I held it I couldn’t put it down. That neck is something else. Just an odd experience. I finally put it back on the shelf, but 30 mins later, I called the music store back and bought it over the phone. I didn’t even plug it in before purchasing lol. Weird experience for sure!

My only gripe is the high action it has at stock. Were you able to bring it down after the 12th fret? Sounds like we both like compound radius necks!

  • Close your eyes and strum a Wolfgang. It’s got insane resonance. Amazing guitar and great video, Ty!

  • I fell in love with the evh wolfgangs about a year ago, i have two of them and they are the perfect guitar for me. All i did to them was change the switch to a switchcraft one which was a great upgrade. I also have no interest in playing van halen music, i play everything from funk, pop, metal and blues on them. The pickups are great and that neck!
