What’s going on everybody?!? SeanPierceJohnson here with this week’s episode of “Stompbox Saturday”! On the stompin’ block this week is the Quintessence Harmony by TC Electronic.
It’s been years since I owned a harmonizer pedal. Harmonizers are fun and allow one guitar to be turned into multiple voices, which can be handy for songwriting, coming up with interesting guitar parts, or even as a music theory learning tool!
In this video we’ll explore some of the uses for Quintessences, the different sounds available, and a Toneprint I created for myself that will easily replace a terrible, useless bassist!

  • Not sure what it is, but either there is something about the TC Electronic Quintessence that is harsh and ear piercing (maybe bad sound editing for this video). But so glad that I purchased the EHX Intelligient Harmony Machine over this pedal.

  • Sorry dont know any theory but, can you do minor 3rds with this pedal? Like death metal type riffs.

  • Great demo! Kind of reinforced my view that harmonisers have a fake sound to them. I don’t even know why. Although they sound cool, they don’t sound like 2 or more guitars playing together. I think it lacks the nuances of two parts being ever so slightly different when played on two or more guitars.

This is nit a criticism of your demo. Your demo was great, as was your playing. And that part at the end was epic.

  • I just picked one of these up. Is there a website out there that shows the settings for specific songs? I.E. for this song by Queen use these settings…. for that Hotel California twin guitar riff set it at this, for Allman Bros use this setting…..

  • I wonder how it copes with slide guitar in standard tunings? And say, if you finger two notes a third apart, what the harmoniser makes of it?

  • Without midi and being able to pull up presets most pedals are one trick ponies once they are on the floor! Knobs should also be able to be locked once your tone is found!

  • some of you fast playing "tracking" sounds like the old Les Paul stuff he used to do when he would layer his stuff while playing live.

  • would this pedal be good for the Allman Brothers type harmony riffs they used to do ?

  • Can I use this pedal just to play music, improvise, without focusing on scales, please ? Or will go out of tune ?????

  • Unbelievably I was riddled because intervals didn't suit at all…
The # latch was set to normal but my guitar was tuned in Eb.
After watching this video it all made sense all of a sudden; major thanks! (see what I did there ghehehe)

  • Is the knob with just major based scales redundant if you already have a key knob ?
    (C major (ionian) = D dorian = E phrygian =F lydian = G myxolydian = A aeolian = B (nobody cares ;))
Would be nice if they had used that knob for some alternative scales 🙂

  • Can anybody explain what difference the mode knob makes compared to just setting the pedal for the relative major key, or is this just a wasted knob?

  • Thx for the Vid, i just ordered one.. I used alot of the harmonizer on the Amplitube program. All my solos include harmonizer solos, some solos i made are completely only with Harmonizer ON. Im obsessed with doing harmonizing solo.. it sounds just fkn epic.
