Hands On with Martin Guitar’s New SC18E and SC28E Acoustic Guitars!

When Martin Guitars unveiled the SC13e we were immediately impressed and dismayed. Impressed with the guitar itself and Martin’s courage in developing a guitar that is so modern. Dismayed with the fact that the model was not fully solid and made in Mexico. We longed for an all-solid USA made guitar. The very limited CSSC proved that the concept was sound and benefited from solid-wood construction, even while dripping in abalone! Finally, for 2024 Martin Guitar as unveiled two Made in the USA, all-solid wood SC models, the new SC-18e and SC-28e. Do they live up to our hopes for these guitars? Watch our full review to find out.

  • I just received my SC-28e and couldn’t be happier. I traded in my SC-10e. The playability is “close”to the SC-10 but the look, quality, feel and sound are very different and much improved. I can’t seem to put it down or stop staring at it.

  • Man I just got the SC-13e, and I love it.

I was downright cynical about these when they came out but holy moly they are comfortable and even the 13 series model sounds pretty darn good, even coming from a dreadnought guy.

  • I own a sc13E and Martin needs to include a shim pack with each guitar.I have to change mine twice a year.I had to argue with martin support to get an extra one but after i threatened to make my own and tell people on social media how to do it,they sent me one. C'mon Martin we expect better of you.And the black binding on the sc18e Sux!

  • When are we going to see the SC28E available with the burst finish available on the SC13E special. I think that is Martins nicest burst finish (although ambertone is nice as well)

  • How about that comparison between the SC 28, and a 000 -28? New design vs proven? with the same tonewoods? a “follow up”?

  • I’d love to hear these w different strings… like this, these are by a fur piece the darkest Martins I ever ever heard.

  • Man, that Cooper Greensburg guy can play! I'm interested in the relative dimensions of these. They're obviously smaller than a dreadnought, but with the elliptical shape it's difficult to judge as compared to Martin's traditional sizings. Triple-0 or OM maybe?

  • Wouldn't it be cool if there were herringbone patterns on the SC28? I wish Martin could do an HSC28

  • I have an SC18e. It's a good acoustic guitar – but, more importantly, it's a better acoustic electric guitar. Played through a good amp (I have an AER60), it's one of the very best acoustic electrics I've ever heard. And the neck is extremely playable. Very comfortable, particularly for players with big to very big hands. Also excellent for finger style guitar…

  • I like them both, but I still wish they made some of these without electronics. Some pickup systems become obsolete, in a decade or so. I like something you can switch out and customize. I like a passive knk mini. No holes, no battery, no knobs.
