Plugged My Tube Amp Into an FRFR (TONEX) Cab – What Could Go Wrong?

Can you run a tube amp into an FRFR cabinet? In this video I test the IK Multimedia TONEX Cab as an FRFR speaker with 2 real tube amps – specifically the REVV D20 and Wangs VT-15. This isn’t your typical modeler into FRFR setup, this is a real tube amp running through a FRFR cabinet.

Can you run a tube amp into an FRFR cabinet designed for modelers? The IK Multimedia TONEX Cab is built for the TONEX Pedal or Kemper, Helix, and Fractal units – but what happens when you plug in real tube amps instead?

In this video I’m testing the REVV D20 and Wangs VT-15 through the TONEX Cab FRFR speaker. This is NOT the intended use case, so I cover the critical safety requirements including proper loadbox usage. The REVV D20 has a built-in reactive load, while the Wangs VT-15 requires an external loadbox. Does an FRFR speaker designed for digital modeling work for real tube amp tone? Can tube amp players benefit from FRFR portability without sacrificing feel and response?

The results were… unexpected.
