Rig Rundown – Propagandhi’s Chris Hannah, Todd Kowalski, and Sulynn Hago
Article & photos: http://bit.ly/PropagandhiRR
Purchased at a dodgy gas station years ago, this 1997 Gibson SG has been Chris Hannah’s No. 1 for over a decade. Hannah modded the SG with a mystery pickup in the neck position (perhaps a Bare Knuckle) and a Bare Knuckle Alnico NailBomb at the bridge. He also added an EverTune bridge for tuning stability. Strung with Ernie Ball .011–.052 sets, the SG stays tuned down a half-step with the low string dropped to C#. For picks, Hannah uses “those yellow ones,” which PG thinks are Dunlop .73 mm Tortex Standards.
Although Hago has several whammy bar-equipped guitars at home in Florida, she tours with her 1997 Gibson SG. It’s loaded with a Bare Knuckle Alnico NailBomb humbucker in the bridge position and sports an EverTune bridge. Hago strings her SG with Ernie Ball .010–.046 sets.
With the exception of a brief romance with Music Man basses, for most of his career Todd Kowalski has played an Ibanez Sound Gear SR 1500 strung with Ernie Ball .045–.105 sets. He has more expensive basses, but none that he likes as much as the SR 1500.

Just saw them in St. John's, NL in Sept 2025 and they're all still using this gear. Amazing. Canadian icons.
If aliens came to earth and asked what a Canadian was – I'd show them this video. Greatest fucking band.
Jesus. Todd is definitely Canadian. Sounds like my buddy Timo
Ibanez basses ftw
Fuck the Middle East.
Does anyone know what gig this was?
nice one guv`na
Chris Hannah might well be my favorite person in punk rock. So humble. So talented. So intelligent. So well spoken. So Canadian.
checking this out in april 2025. the new prop song at peace is a ripper. "i just wanna play, and fuckin rock" haha todd is the best. love these dudes
NICE TRAGEDY SHIRT!!!!!!!!!
Chris and Propaghandi are my all time musical heroes. I also love Streetlight Manifesto.
Great interviews of my favorite band. These guys rule. Todds the most Canadian bassist of all time lol
Todd seems like a pretty simple and down to earth guy for one of the best musicians ever. He's just like "Yeah, I got an amp and a bass and shi#."
How to clean everything is a very good record
My all-time favorite punk rock band!!
2:50 that's funny, I still don't know how to pronounce alnico either
Did you get which picks and strings he is using? Maybe I missed it?
I love this interview, thanks so much for doing this.
This was awesome! The host really knows his gear and, importantly, was familiar with Propagandhi and their body of work. That was great to see. Thanks for sharing!
My daughter plays in a band with his son and she sent me a picture of that guitar in his basement
I heard Don Henley was pissed. Not really.
Gratitude for the crunchy tunes and tasty waves!
Every Propagandhi interview sounds like the real life Spinal Tap.
Hard to watch your haircut dude
Todd's gear explanation was punk as hell. Some whatever Ibanez, Ampeg head so it doesn't get thrashed, and a "this fuckin thing here" 8×10 cab????
I love this band (and I Spy)
The interviewer is passionate ! I like it ????
My fave is Failed Imagineer.
The cringe is strong
Awesome Tragedy shirt ❤️
They're so humble like they aren't some of the most skilled musicians in the history of rock music
Awesome! Love that he’s a fan cause he asks the questions fans of Them would want to know! Thanks for this interview!
Chris likes to party hard… Also enjoys his rock n roll the same!
Man these guys are so Canadian. y'knoooh? Friggin love it
