  • Here is what I do so I don’t lose the Allen key. I make a bunch of these for every guitar of mine that has lock nuts, and a few extras. Buy a bunch of Allen keys and buy some small neodymium magnets and and a small piece of shrink tubing that will slip over the Allen key and magnet . Put the magnet on the back of the Allen key put a small piece of shrink tubing over it that ,shrink it down, thats all. Now you can just stick it to the tuners on the back or stick it to the metal corners on your amplifier ,stick them anywhere a magnet will stick! You will always have a wrench! You’re welcome.

  • There is a magnetic hex tool that sticks to your tuners.

Floyd Rose makes a Turbo Trem Arm with a 3mm hex tool on the end.

  • Recommended mods for your #EVH #5150.
    – Kramer sticker for the headstock
    – Floyd Rose Trem either an Original, 1984, or a vintage FRT-5 Whaletail. Get them used for a dull reliced finish.
    – FU Tone upgraded titanium saddles and block.

Period Correct is a company that has many of the EVH 5150 parts you will need.

  • Tom, I think a reason you’re feeling kind of meh on the pickup is because they’re chucking the Wolfgang Alnico 2 pickups in everything now. It’s pretty well known that the original Kramer 5150 had a Duncan JB that became damaged at some point but Ed liked the way it sounded after the damage. So that would mean an Alnico 5 magnet. In my experience the Alnico 5s tend to clean up better and they have a little more jangle. Something like the Pariah Pickups 1986 model would probably be a much better option to throw in there, as it’s based off that altered JB.

  • You're using the D-Tuna wrong I think. You're supposed to press down on the D-Tuna (not the bridge/whammy bar) BEFORE you pull on it. Press it down towards the body, then pull it out.

  • When using lighter gauge strings, do you also use a “lighter” picks? (as opposed to something like a jazz 3) I know EVH was a fan of fender medium picks at one point

  • I played one of Eddies guitars in Montreal in 1995. i have to say it was shockingly light.

Benny Goodman recently purchased it at auction.

I'm considering a 5150 for my collection. i have a new woflgang but admittedly hardly play it. an entry level mii. it's a good value guitar. i think a 5150 would be played more. the mii has about 5 hours total in 4 years.

  • We live in the philippines, ive been a van halen fan since i was 6 yrs old and now im 11. playing van halen licks, idolizing him, talking about him to diffrent persons etc. ive loved the way the 5150 kramer looked it is astonishing, so good looking infact that it was my fream guitar, so as the other guitars the van halen partnered like the wolfgang special, But the kramer 5150 stands out the most for me. Therefore december 25 2021 after a year of not getting over van halens death, my tita (aunt) gifted me a 5150 kramer. I was shaking as soon as i took the bag out of the box and in the big pocket on the front it had the name evh imprinted on it as well as the stripes. Here iam today 15 years old shredding evh licks, songs, solos.

  • I like it but I just can’t get over the clean look. I’m waiting for a relic 5150 model to release. It’s what I see in my head and this one just isn’t “it” to me. Close obviously, but with the wrong banana hockey stick headstock and all, I’m not sold

  • You mention it sounding a bit flat and lifeless, I wonder if that is because the body is basswood. Every basswood guitar I've played has been dead sounding as basswood is cheap and lightweight. It would be interesting to compare to a Kramer Baretta 84 with an Alder body. The original Kramers and Charvels were alder, and sometimes maple bodies. Anyway, love your videos!!!

  • Can you do a video where you compare the Frankie vs this 5150, since you have both? Theres no video out there like that and would appreciate it. Love the videos.

  • Hello, I was wondering what Allen key set and holder you got for your guitar. I always dreamed of having the ultimate EVH rig one day, and the holder might come in handy one day for the guitars I want. Can you help me out?

  • I have an original Floyd Rose on my '85 Kramer Baretta. It does not have a "d-tuna." ????‍♂️

  • The striped 5150 I had completely had Eddie’s tone! It was so damn GOOD. I regret having sold it. I did get a striped Wolfgang to replace it….but that 5150 had THE TONE DOWN! The Wolfie sounds good, too…..but not like that 5150.

  • It's hard to understate how good these things are in real life; I built a kit and was snobbish about the EVH version until I played it…and boy is it a sharp instrument!
