Firefly’s CONTROVERSIAL New Model – Brutally Honest 1 Take Review

Everyone enjoyed my 1 take, no edits unboxing and review of the Firefly heavy relic strat so much that I’m doing the same format again for Firefly Guitar’s newest model. What’s the inspiration behind this guitar? Should we even say it out loud? And what about the artwork on the back of the body?

It’s tough though, to argue with roasted mahogany woods, stainless steel frets, locking tuners, alnico V picksup, and a roller bridge…. for only $220!? Wow. Guitar MAX checks it out.

  • Is the neck chunky. I prefer a thinner neck profile, but I'm guessing it's likes the thicker Gibson necks?

  • Dude… you need to get out more & be around people. This vid should be 12 min MAX. No one cares if you edit. Nobody should ever have to watch someone cut the box and unbox a guitar.

  • Great review Max, I don't think FireFly making a guitar in the same design concept as a signature model is at all an issue. There letting you enjoy the build and design features and look without the added high cost of the signature model. Their calling it by the monicure of the signature, they're honest about that yet they are producing a very cool guitar with the similar features and design. I'm 100% on board with it. If it's important to you to have the original signature model then pay the price. But FireFly is letting those who can't or won't pay the price still enjoy the design concept. I thinks it's a win win. Take care and God bless

  • C'mon Man, enough with fixing hair and more guitar review. Not a beauty pageant! Seems like Guitar Maxx is turning into more like a 'cosmetology' channel and targeting a more 'female' crowd lately! I'm still here for the same reason I first subbed…guitar! Dont screw it up! ????????

  • GREAT JOB. I have a modded Chibson AJ standard LP and refitted it with Seymour Duncan in the bridge and locking Grovers. It does sound almost exactly like mine. A little less crunchy, but way less money for this one. Thanks!

  • I just ordered a firefly ffsps (LP version) it was $221, the reason for buying it is I'm getting back into learning to play and I have a 5 yo grandson that loves to mess with stuff he's not supposed to and I'm too nervous to have my pride and joy bc rich warlock pro X Shadow i bought new in 2011 and its still flawless and it plays soooo nice and drop dead beautiful, life has gotten in the way so it's sat idol for years and every time I've taken it out of its case it's still in tune. I plan on playing it but I don't want to put it in the case every time I leave my room for even a few minutes. I've always loved Les Paul's and was into slash and zakk Wylde so I've always wanted one and I could not help myself The bat green firefly at least in the pictures actually gorgeous. I just hope I like the neck of the FF because I had a cheap Washburn years ago and I struggled with it I thought it was just me but after I played my warlock and it improved my playing instantly I realized my struggles were because of the Washburn's baseball bat neck, it was thick wide and awful, I'm not saying it would be terrible for everyone it was just terrible for me, my early 80s japanese squire super strat i guess you would call it with black body and headstock face and natural neck, rosewood fret board with dual humbuckers and no pick guard i had as a teen (late 80s early 90s) had a very comfortable neck also but it was destroyed by my cousin in mid 90s, that was a shame that version was a little more rare than a typical Japanese squire, the friend of the family that was the seller said it was a factory custom but who knows he may have been full of it. There's a long babbling comment that strayed way off topic lol.

  • got my first Firefly a few weeks ago to see if the hype is warranted. It is and then some. Unreal quality, especially when you consider the price.

  • Cool vid. Cool guitar. I have many vintage and import. I have a 1980s MXZ probably from Korea factory during Kramer financial mess. Great guitar.

  • I like it , it’s the musician that brings life to the instrument. With a few tweaks you can make it a much better guitar ????

  • Just ordered one, the Tiger Queen version. Its my fourth Firefly, and i have 1 Westcreek, love playing them all. So far the Ace Frehley LP is my favorite though, its absolutely gorgeous ????

  • Seriously lol, you make Glary guitars seem badass because your talent is comparable to any of the legends! I would kill to get in person guitar lessons from you. Would be badass if you did detailed easy to see and understand guitar lessons.

  • Ah man I hate the mis match look with the pickups… Also… Bruh, your talent makes the most crappy guitars sound good lol

  • I really think a Les Paul or SG would serve you better. Stratocaster guitars are so basic and so ugly, they have boring ugly dotted necks and single coil pickups, they’re so lacking as an instrument. A Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul or SG or Thunderbird or even Flying V I think would fit your style and improve your style more than what you’re playing on. Your talent, style, passion, and beauty deserves more.

  • Great review! Love me some Tiger Queen & the shape of the cutaway. Roasted; big plus. That's a winner, very tastefully done. Firefly is a baddass name, not some wonky jinky name. The only thing I would change is the neck pickup to match the bridge p.u. Love the burst color; on the screen it looks not quite gold, but somewhat subdued, so that it enhances the other visual features.

  • I go to there website and is hardly anything there, especially anything like that. I've emailed and heard nothing back, about getting models in. What I do find lacks information about the products. Maybe I don't know how to navagate the site.

  • My Mercury Sable looks identical to a Ford Taurus. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I've owned two Firefly guitars. Both were fantastic for the money.
I've always been on the fence regarding Signature Models.
A part of me wants one, but another part of me would feel cheesy playing one out.
    ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I once new a guy who owned an original Gibson LPC silverburst.
At a gig some fanboy jumped on stage post show to swoon, and accidentally knocked it over…
Snapping the headstock. Dude ran for the hills and barely made it out of the parking lot!

    P.S.
Kudos for having a BOSS OD-1 on top of your Marshall and not a Tube Screamer.

    Cheers!

  • I had been considering a Firefly for several years and finally bought one the other day, I am amazed that they can make and sell these things for the price, and ship it to my house in exactly 1 week for $27. I bought a LP custom model for the $199. It plays great with no setup yet, however im think the nut was cut a little deep on the low E, it has the slightest buzzing on an open E string, but thats the only problem whatsoever that i have found, and that buzz is not noticed when plugged in. I already want more, its like how everyone gets their first tattoo, then they want more, i feel this way about Fireflys now. I dont feel Firefly is ripping anyone off, like you said, i dont think anyone is going to buy one thinking its a Gibson. Its clearly labeled "Firefly" and has a different headstock, however, im not a fan of the guitars modeled after Artists guitars, even on major brands that are legit artists guitars, but i feel that way about a lot of things, 99% of my t-shirts are solid colors with no branding, pics, etc. I do think that artwork is awesome on the back of that guitar, but even without an artist connection, I wouldnt want it on my guitar. I think its corny that everyone wants an EVH striped copy guitar, and whats even cheesier than that? A cheap EVH guitar, so now even more people have them lol. But i also dont understand why people want distressed guitars, companies charge extra and people pay extra, its crazy to me. Theres my thoughts, keep up the good work.

  • Max, I recently bought the Rosewood Strat type Firefly. I had it set up and when I plugged it in to my Katana something did not sound right. Turns out the pots installed were 500K and single coils require 250K pots. The guitar sounded VERY bright and jangle. Love the guitar, my 2nd Firefly, and I hope switching to the correct pots will fix the problem!
Love the show Max! Keep up the good work!????

  • Great video. I have a couple Fireflys and they are overall extremely solid for the price point. The one out of the box problem I have found with ALL Chinese made guitars (Squire, Firefly, you name it) is that the frets may be great as far as no sharp edges, but the frets themselves are incredibly rough. When you bend a note, you can really hear the scratch of the string across the rough fret. When I bought my first Firefly, I learned how to polish frets the best way possible, which is not steel wool, but 3M type micro fibre pads. Putting in about an hour of work will make those frets feel like a high end professional guitar. I also think the pots are a little rough, but the pickups are not bad. Overall, I love Firefly, I just wish they polished their frets more. Anyone else have that same issue with them?

  • I wanted a "teardrop" Silverburst; Jones or not… He's awesome but I'm not that good. LOL I had a PRS SE McCarty that took a dive and broke to hell… After I threw up, I ordered this (Medusa art) and had my luthier put the McCarty guts in this; trading the tuners and added an Epi bridge. It is the best playing and sounding guitar I own currently. I friggin LOVE it!! I own many, but I keep going back to it. The Bones are solid mate. The electronics are poo. My bridge pickup was hanging out when I got mine. LOL I love this video series and its a worthy debate. Well filmed; hair disasters aside… LOL Cheers Brother!
