Walden G550RCEL Acoustic Guitar Review – My First Walden Experience!

Welcome to my review of the Walden G550RCEL Acoustic guitar loaded with a Walden pickup system. Thanks to DI Music in Australia for sponsoring this video. I don’t get to keep the guitar, so they’ve compensated me for my production time. All thoughts about this guitar are my own – as always.

  • Thanks for checking out our lefty! Note, “righty” models currently can’t get this fully featured model … shout out to lefties. Currently right handed players can only get the G550RE (great guitar but without the cutaway). Our logic was: if we are going to offer limited left handed models, let’s pack as much feature as we can as the lefties deserve it. Anyhoo. Thanks again! Peace.

  • Is it me…? This guitar keeps pace with any Taylor or Martin I’ve ever heard. It sounds amazing! Thanks!

  • I own three Walden’s, G630CE, G570ETB, and an O550E.

    I also own a Furch Yellow Master’s Choice Gc-CR.

The Furch is an incredible, boutique quality guitar but it cost almost twice as much as all three of my Walden’s put together!

I’m a performing singer-songwriter and my Walden G570ETB and G630CE are my primary gigging guitars. I use 11-52s on the G570ETB which I find still sound great but less fatiguing to play for long periods of time. I use 12-53s on all my other guitars.

My Walden's look and sounds amazing and are a seamless transition from my Furch.

The reason I’m mentioning this is because it’s mind blowing to me that a sub $500 guitar feels as good as 3K guitar, sounds great plugged into my Fishman Loudbox mini, and looks like a 3K instrument (the previous comments apply to all my Walden’s). In fact the only upgrades I did to all my Waldens is added Gotoh Large Schaller style tuning machines which gives more of a boutique quality tuning experience. The stock tuners are perfectly fine, the Gotoh's are exceptional (I have Gotoh 510s on my Furch and that spoiled me).

The build quality is exceptional and I love that I can go onstage, bring my Walden into a vast array of environments (including bringing it out during Michigan winters) and it holds up beautifully!!

My G630 is my workday practice guitar. I work from home and keep it next to me all day.

My O550E is my DADGAG guitar (and other alternative tunings).

Needless to say I’m a Walden fan, my next Walden will be their E1B Baritone!!

  • Hey Shane..

Jimbo here from The Great NW in The USA. Nice to see you testing out this great cutaway by Walden. Walden makes some really nice acoustic guitars.

    Keep playin', Mon…

We're presently at Rockaway Beach, OR for some great sunshine, waves, & seafood to die for.

    Enjoy!!!

  • Great review as always Shane. Just wondering about the neck. Scale length? Neck carve? Slim. C, D, V, etc.?

  • The guitar sounds great. The pickup sounds as good as, but different from, the ribbon mic. It seems the EQ is really powerful, I thought the 10 o'clock positions were way too much, they practically turned "off" the bass and treble. But a nice sounding guitar at an excellent price point.

  • I have the previous generation of a similar model Walden. Love it! I wish it had the ergonomic armrest. Maybe have to find the new one locally. Great work as usual, Shane!

  • Gilman guitars are some of the best guitars for the money. Great sound and build quality.

  • Been a fan of Walden guitars for 20 years now with an unamplified acoustic that sits next to my chair ready to pick up and play at will. I have better acoustics but the Walden is my first choice day to day.

  • Judging by the price I'm guessing the back and sides aren't solid mahogany?

  • Would love to see you review more acoustics Shane.
I have a beautiful sounding but cheap acoustic that is unplayable now after twenty years because the neck is now twisted and would cost more to fix then it's value. Ya get what ya pay for with acoustics. No room for error. If it's good quality from the start, it will only sound better as the wood ages.

  • You need to try a Parlor Guitar! I’m getting serious Robert Johnson vibes from that intro clip! Great playin’ as always!

  • Hello, Thanks from France!
I'm a left handed guitarist as you.
I 'll go in USA this year or next year. Where can I find a really big choice of electric left hand guitars in US?

  • I haven't played an acoustic in over a year! It was a lot of fun. Details are in the description. Let me know if you'd like to see more acoustic stuff on the channel. ????
