Another great video, I love that I know what everyone used as there was so little choice!
Recently I have been listening a lot to Horslips: never as big as they should have been but a huge influence on many Irish bands. Johnny Fean had an incredible tone, very much medium gain sound with a lot of vibrato. It has dated very well as many players have gone back to that sound. Funnily enough, they split up in 1980, just as sounds were getting higher gain and there last two albums have not aged as well!
Great video! If ANYONE has the Secret Sauce to Judas Priest's tone (K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton) from the Stained Class and Killing Machine albums, I'd sure like to hear it.
ooo er nazereth ole manny charlton,, saw the revamp skynyrd a few weeks ago in wembly.. fender amps and explorer and strats some l p too… for me pure nostalgia i'm 68 so born in 1958.. loved 60 70 80s rock the best ever anything later doesnt come close tbh.. shoot me. lol
Remove the Boss tuner buffer and other pedals that in the chain. At least do those tests with a loop switcher with only the pedal chosen for the direct signal
Hard to leave the telecaster out the mix.
Filtertrons!
I thought Skynyrd used Peavey amps.
Weren’t Skynerd using Peaveys?
Van Halen…a 70’s band…technically not a lie…which is wild
You missed the Boston sound, and Clapton. Some definitely 70’s tones
I think Steve Jones from the Pistols had a massive 70's tone …should have popped in a bit of Pistols for the mix LOL
No mention of Bad Company and Mick Ralph’s classic Ampeg/Marshall tones on Bad Company, Can’t Get Enough, Rock Steady, Feel Like Making Love, etc … along with Free/Kossoff, my favourite tones
: )
Interesting fact… Jimmy's Les Paul's were made by Roger Giffin at Gibson who ran Gibsons custom shop at the time.
Check out Rogers client list!!!
Richie Blackmore was the one using a reel to reel, during his time with Deep Purple.
Black Dog was way too trebly. Schools Out was spot-on.
We're all used to far too much gain.
No the Laney klip came out in 74
It was blackmore who used a reel to reel recorder preamp
Skynyrd used the Peavey Mace.
