I had a Martin d18 and it was the hardest guitar to play I've ever had. I have several of the newer ones and they're a lot better

I would never give Martin one cent. They are a rip off. 1970s MIJ ( made in Japan ) guitars sell for $200 to $ 400 and are just as good as Martins that go for $ 1500..
I feel like today's Standard D-18 is the best sounding acoustic guitar on the market – I know there are customs and little niche brands and woods that can achieve a little higher, but pound for pound, it's just the best acoustic guitar in the world.

always wanted a nice 28. I finally got one, but suffered a bad shoulder injury, and I could not wrap my arm around the dread body…traded it for a 000-15 SM… discovered the beauty of mahogany and searched out a sweet D-18! No comparison to 28. If I had to choose, on a desert island, the 18 would be a no-brainer! And I'm keeping the ooo. Nothing sweeter than D-18

Best guitar that i have played was a 1953 D18. It was as light as a feather and amazed me. A friend owned it and wouldn't even discuss selling it.

I love them all, but the best was developed about 2 yrs earlier, with their 00018.
I rue the day I had to sell my 1942 D-18. That was 20 years ago and I think about it regularly.
It did end up saving my life though, it got me out of a terrible financial jam. Now I play my 1920 O-18

D-18 had a lot of heart , Grit and depth . It’s a serious guitar It has reverb and it distinguishes between every sting you hit. It’s making my fingers hurt .

Liking J-40 over all but the vintage D-18.
It’s sad cause people think the D-28 is better cause of the price difference but it all comes down to price of materials. Then people buy a D-28 then play a D-18 and realize they messed up.

I played a D28 37 authentic aged at Music Villa in Bozeman Montana the other day and it was the greatest Martin I've ever played in my life (even amongst the vintage ones I've tried.) Unbelievable instrument. As soon as I am financially able to, I will be purchasing a used one.

My first really nice guitar is a "95 D-18 I got new from Paulus Music in Jax Florida. My favorite, even over a 2017 HD-28. The HD-28 has a stronger voice, but the D-18 plays amazing.
So many great choices these days.
