  • Thanks for sharing. How is the playability and quality control compared to Spanish guitars?

  • STOP! NO. Truss rods have NOTHING to do with adjusting action. Google this now if you don't believe it. Truss rods are for straitening the neck when it begins to curve upward or downward- picture the neck warping like a bow (as in bow and arrows) If the neck is straight and you turn the truss adjustment you are factually curving the neck into a U (or upside-down U) shape referred to as bow and back-bow. The only way to adjust string height on a Spanish/Classical guitar is to file the bridge more shallow or a neck reset, which is only worth it on a very valuable guitar. Moving on…I play an Esteve, but also have a Cordoba C7. The C7 plays well, but somewhat lacks character- it's very similar to the C5 with some more upscale appointments, but for the money these are a sure bet and a no brainer.

  • Would this guitar be good for flamenco? Need a new guitar and might treat myself for Christmas if it would be suitable for flamenco, if not would love some budget guitar recommendations for flamenco! Thank you, great video as always

  • Most 'budget' guitars are finished with spray polyurethane — it's quick, easy to apply and inexpensive. All well and good, and it works as a finish is it's needed — however, the biggest caveat in it's use, is that it is almost always overapplied. From the manufacturer's view, it's always better to have more than is 'just enough' to do the job. So.. there is almost always more finish applied than necessary. If you have any degree of finishing or polishing skill, a simple mod to consider is to carefully 'thin' (buff / polish down) the finish — especially on the top, but back and sides will make a small differnce as well. This alone can make a 'dead' unresponsive guitar come to life with better volume/projection and more responsiveness as well.

  • If you're after 'bang-for-the-buck' check out the house brand 'Thomann S 4/4 Classic' guitar. It's an all solid (yes, ALL SOLID — no laminates used at all) very traditional build for about $310 (item+tariff+shipping inc). It's a very traditional Torres-braced solid spruce top, 'maple' (European Sycamore maple) back/sides, maple neck with black locust ('Robinia') fingerboard and bridge. It comes with synthetic bone and saddle, so those are obvious parts to upgrade right away. The woods are air dried for years before cutting/building. They are made in the Hora factory In Romania. I have had one since 2019 and (after the usual, fret checking/dressing, swap saddles to bone counterparts, new strings [duh!], and a tuner upgrade..) I love it! Best $200 I have ever spent on any guitar (I'm older and have owned several..). It's not the guitar that will visually stun and impress, it IS a guitar that gives a great sound and response when setup and broken in properly. You guys are missing out..

  • I got one of these several years ago. Love the sound. I am still very much a beginner for what it’s worth. I will say that the D string is a little more ‘dead’ than the others, but just.

I paid about half what you said, (at Sweetwater) so I am happy with it.

  • I've played one at my local Guitar Center and love the sound and playability, but the display model has cracks in the finish, and online reviews mention the bridge coming unglued pretty frequently. Has anyone had those problem?

  • I also have a Cordoba guitar. It's a Fusion 5 hybrid, entry level price point. It's a bit of a cross between a classical (nylon Saveraz strings) and a steel string acoustic (48mm nut width, a truss rod and a smaller body than a classical). It has a fine sound with good sustain. I am very impressed with Cordoba's instruments. This is a lovely review of a lovely guitar. Fun fact: Cordoba was bought by Yamaha in I think 2020 or 2021.

  • Have a cedar C5. Great instrument. One thing though that should be clarified, the truss rod isn't for adjusting action, it's for adjusting neck relief. Some action affect may be accidental, but if a beginner goes trying to dial in their action with a truss wrench something is going to break.

  • So difficult to trust social media or YouTube reviews. Not judging you. I got an electric last Xmas. It was the worst piece of crap ever and yet the review and comments were over the top.

  • The action looks very high…
The nut slots could be cut a lot lower.
In my opinion, any new guitar should have new quality strings put on it , before you listen to its voice…
Sweetwater has a lot of choices and reps, but they love to charge retail prices for their gear.
You can find all gear at other stores for much less $…????

  • I have a C5 lefty cedar version, just started taking lessons and I like it but the frets are so rough. This seems to be a common complaint with Cordoba. I plan to take it in to have fret work done soon. I do enjoy the sound it makes and I agree with you about the sustain.

  • Wish i would have seen this yesterday. Great review. It would have swayed my decision. I had the C7 (same guitar with rosewood) in my cart. After days of deliberation i went with something else.

  • Do NOT adjust action by adjusting the truss rod. That’s not what it’s there for. The action on an acoustic guitar(including a nylon string classical) is done at the saddle. The truss rod is ONLY for adjusting relief (or the slight curve in the neck).

  • Cordoba make great guitars, just don’t expect them to be something they’re not. They’re not perfect luthier hand voiced instruments, but they get you like 80% there for a fraction of the price. I like their GK Studio Limited for a “do it all” classical-ish, with electronics and I can use a strap etc. the big difference will always be that the overbuilt guitar will sound more closed off and muddy even with okay sustain. Give Aquila Ambre 2000 strings a try on your Cordoba and you may be surprised.

  • I own a C7 cedar top. I have heard several players say Cordobas sounds twice as good as they cost. I agree they are some of the best entry level classical guitars out there for sure, and it's definitely worth spending the extra cash when compared to a really cheap instrument.

  • It’s a shock from playing electric , acoustic guitar and switching to a classical guitar. I own the c10 , just like all classical guitar instruments the fretboard is very wide. Different but you have to get use to it by constantly playing on that guitar

  • I owned one of these for a few years, and I have to agree. For the money, it sounded great. I have some other classical guitars which were much more expensive and this c5 was comparable. I also liked the feel of the neck. The whole guitar felt like an expensive all solid flamenco guitar from Spain that I own. I decided to reduce my fleet and sold it to a very happy buyer.
