  • Taylor has more sound, overtones and such. Sweeter, and glistens. But frankly my 314ce is too bright/harsh in person (without the effects and reverb in this video) and I'm looking for a warmer darker sound.

  • This is a misleading comparison, and it’s actually confusing for beginners who are watching.
A cutaway guitar and a full-body guitar are not “better or worse”, they are different design trade-offs.

A cutaway removes a bit of body mass to give easier access to the upper frets. That’s useful for lead playing, solos, and modern styles. The trade-off is slightly less internal air volume, which can mean a little less acoustic projection and low-end resonance.

A full-body guitar keeps the full soundbox, which usually gives more natural volume, stronger bass, and a more traditional acoustic response, but with less comfortable access to the highest frets.

So comparing them as if one is “superior” to the other misses the point entirely. You’re not comparing quality, you’re comparing two tools designed for different musical purposes.

“Calling one ‘better’ only shows a misunderstanding of basic guitar design.

  • Takamine sounds more clearer and louder. Might get another one now. Not sure which one though.

  • Y’all are broke because you’re smoking crack if you don’t think that Taylor sounds better

  • Neither sound bad. The Taylor has more resonance to it and sounds more open. Probably boils down to personal preference

  • The Taylor is voiced for clearer note seperation, the overtones align int he decay, that makes them play friendlier with other instruments. The Takamine like every traditional X-braced guitar is optimized for solo play. The $650 difference is also buying you the best warranty in the business, unique neck shim system for easy resets, a very large certified repair network in the US and Canada and also the ES-2 pickup which is about a $300 part they use up the line even on $9000 presentation series Taylors.
