In case anyone is wondering, I own an FG5 myself (love the guitar) and can tell you that yes, it does have scalloped bracing but it is blocky scalloped bracing if that makes sense, they are scalloped but only from the top, not from a 45*-ish angle like you would see in a Martin.
I owned an FGX5 and loved it. Sold it and purchased an FS5 glossy (wanted a smaller body) and love it too..
J.P. Cormier profiled one of these on his channel a while back. Awesome guitar with great balance and seperation.
Yes, I totally agree with you. I have a Yamaha guitar and I love its sound. Yes it´s fantastic. ????
FSX5 here, purchased from Sweetwater in 2022. It’s a wonderful guitar that only sounds better with age, and the pickup system is the best I’ve heard. When I play out, I run it through a Wampler Mini Ego compressor, then into the board. Perfect.
I have the same model. I love it!
Thanks, it's a jungle out there looking for an Acoustic. I live about 4 blocks from Cream City, everything is so damn expensive. Great tip.
Awesome review on the Yamaha! I asked you a couple of questions about the guitar last year and I ended up buying one…I couldn’t be happier! It was between the Yamaha and a d18 for me and this one came out on top. Keep the great videos coming!!
Sounds a lot like my D18, nice ????????
Great stuff. Can we have more reviews of your collection, please?
Just admiring your wall of guitars. I think you need one more.
They‘re good guitars. A few years ago, I tried the FS3 and FS5. The latter had more issues than the former, and I could tell no difference in tone between them. I kept the FS3, setup cost me 25€. Plays and sounds great. Leaves something to be desired aesthetically, though. The varnish coat was uneven, I can even see brushstrokes on the top. But, it plays well and sounds exactly what I‘d hoped for.
yamaha is great. the tuners are incredible so smooth and positive. i bought one – bottom of the line F310 – in Thailand, made in Indonesia. not gonna win any posh timber awards but the neck feels amazing. later i bought a circa 1990 "semi vintage'' higher up model – better timber etc but to be honest in some ways i prefer the cheapy, which i leave on open C!!
let's be honest, it's what you play, your feel, your fingers… …but this guitar looks and sounds sweet…
Nice one Doug.
I have two: An APX 700 II BL plus a APX 700 II 12 NT which are frequently in use.
I still prefer to learn all new stuff on an acoustic, due to their wider necks.
☮️❤️????
That’s just how I like an acoustic guitar to sound. ????????????????????
I've had mine for about the same length of time. It just sings in my solo or duo type settings through a PA. It especially excels at rhythm guitar of the type you're playing in the demo and I generally play.
The couple yamahas u've had always felt stiff and the neck was not a good match for my hand. They were well made, just not for me.
I purchased an LL-TA last year. I’ve been very happy with it is my second Yamaha. May my next will be one of the red label acoustics I love those!
I have a yahama AC1R that’s awesome for a $700 guitar. So much so I sold my Taylor 810e. Also have an old Yamaha from the 80s that’s great.
YAMAHA makes everything good. i had a yamaha electric. very nice for the price.
Really nice sounding guitar! I am a Yamaha fan, my first acoustic is a 1979 FG-335 that I bought in 1981, nearly identical to this guitar except for the electronics and tuning keys. Great sounding instruments, nice balance in the tone.
It actually has 3 sound sources. Piezo, a transducer, and a mini microphone. The electronics combine the phases correctly for the transducer and mic. I bought an FSX5 last year as well. Very nice.
My very first guitar in 1982 was a used Yamaha FG-160E–going for a Beatles vibe on a budget. Great review, seem's like a terrific guitar, looking forward checking one out sometime.
Japanese guitars are great! I have a Martin 2013 D35 and a 1982 Alvarez Yairi DY54. The sound coming from the Japanese made Alvarez hangs in there with the Martin.
I had a Yamaha FGX 370. Excellent guitar! I traded it for a Yari Alverez. I would recommend everyone should always try a Yamaha. They make great guitars & other musical instruments. Especially their pianos.
Nice video, thanks! I like the piezo/internal mic blend. Helps to bring out and combine the best of both pickup styles.
My first real guitar was a Red Label FG-180 that I bought new in 1972, at age 15. The guy who'd taught me a couple of songs at summer camp had a Yamaha, so I didn't know what else to look for. It was by far the best of the guitars in my circle of guitar friends in high school. I retired it many years ago, as the stable grew, and then I gave it to my daughter a few years ago.
Excellent manufacturer. The FGX5 sounds magnificent.
For a few years now, I have almost exclusively played two steel string Yamaha TransAcoustic guitars I own, one mahogany back and sides, the other rosewood. Upstairs downstairs, rosewood mahogany. Hooked on the effects. The End
Go Doug Go !
In 1972 I bought a FG300 and I still have it…!!!
I have a 50 year old FG160. Bought new. The tone is quite mellow not a lot of rings
